... in response to Any suggestions on where to go in Cali.., posted by Modeca on Jan 11, 2004Just kidding of course. Actually in Cali proper CaliesCali.com has some pretty informative walking guides, found at:

Note that just because they list those site-seeing guides it definitely doesn't mean that all areas are safe to stroll about.
Start with some stops on the Cultural tour:

One thing that they've appeared to leave off on that tour is the "cat statue" which is in the veccinity. Any gal will know where it is. Sounds silly but IMHO it's the most unique thing I've seen in Cali proper and makes for some good photos.
Other than that, if you haven't toured some of the haciendas outside of town that's worth at least one visit.
Restaraunts? I wouldn't know where to start - there are so many good options. A favorite for many is Cali Viejo by the zoo, and that would fit in with the "Cultural Tour" mentioned above.
Watch out when eating beef, it's been rumored that a mad cow has managed to swim down the Pacific coast from the US and has somehow worked his way from Tumaco across guerrilla occupied territory and may be in Cali any day now
