Here's a question that shouldn't get me in trouble. Does anyone have information about a good, reasonably priced, pocket translator?

I picked up a SEIKO with advanced verb conjugation capabilities, it also translates Spanish to English.  $16 at Wally World (walmart).

Glad you asked.

Some prefer the electronic ones, and Franklin makes a good one, so does Sony.  I like Sony because it has different mini CD's for different languages, but it's pricy.  I guess they are good, but I don't recommend trying to take one on the airplane in your carry on.  And you are going to have to buy batteries.  For me, personally, I like a paper version, because I can make notations in it.  I am talking about a dictionary.  I don't know of any machine that you can carry in your hand that translates everything you say.  I saw that on an episode of Star Trek, it's a dream that has not yet come true.

Here's a flash.  Language is never the barrier.  The problem is inside of you, not outside of you.  Language is a fun thing, not to be considered as a problem.  I should caution you that overcoming the differences in language can be slow, it surely requires patience, and a willingness to use gestures and to pantomime what you are trying to say, and to attempt to interpret the gestures and pantomimes of the other person.  Pointing to a single word in a translation dictionary can convey a flood of info.

Good luck!

If you use a PDA there are plenty of add ons.  I use Slo Ed.  Works great.

The best I have found is the Franklin.  I bought mine at Staples.  If I remember correctly it is about $50-$60 dollars.  I have bought other cheapy translators out there and they are all junk.

I remember meeting a woman in Colombia.  She was just about English fluent.  She came across a word she didn't understand and pulled a very battered franklin out of her purse to check it.  You could tell the franklin was well used.  Does anyone know of a pocket tranlator that will translate full typed text (not just a word)?
