A woman awakens in the middle of the night to find that her husband is not in bed.
She goes downstairs to look for him and finds him sitting in the kitchen, staring at the wall in deep thought. She notices a tear in his eye, and asks, "What's the matter, dear? Why are you up at this hour?"
The husband looks up at her. "Do you remember 20 years ago when we were dating, and you were only 16?," he asks.
"Yes, of course I do," she replies.
"Do you remember...", he pauses. "Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car making love?"
"Yes, I remember," she answers, a bit sheepishly.
He continues, "Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, 'Either you marry my daughter, or I'll have you sent to jail for 20 years.'"
"I remember that too," she says softly.
He wipes another tear from his eye. "I would have gotten out today."
