There were some beautiful latinas along the parade route to celebrate the Marlins victory in 6 games over the NY Stankees. Too bad most are americanized.
I think you all heard it here first, Marlins in 6!
Beautiful latinas in S. Florida.

only to the "real" Marlin fans!!! All 16,000 of them (average per game attendance)! The Marlins beat the odds & all comers. The Yankees, had their chances but didn't/couldn't capitalize. Enjoy the taste of victory (we've had it 26 times already....it can be addictive..lol). But don't get comfortable....cuz you can bet your last buck, that we'll be back!

Even though it was the time of year you find out who is playing even if you didn't want to know,I totally lost track of what was happening after it was 2-2.I just remembered like yesterday, hey I wonder who won.So now I know.
I will sometimes watch the final game of the world series,as good as it gets I guess for a baseball fan,and still think its boring as hell and an incredibly SLOW game.
A fan I am not.I do like football but have been pretty disinterested so far this year.I guess I got alot of other things on my mind, reconsidering if I am really going to do an escape along the lines of my plan A.The pressure of having to decide right away is mostly off at the moment.
Sorry Howard,I did want your guys to win because it would have been pleased.

The Yankee fans haven't been back to congratulate Florida on its stunning upset.  Of course, the Yankees still have one tradition that the Marlins can't match: loosing a World Series.  The Marlins have never done that.

... in response to You mean the Yankees didn't win?, posted by DallasSteve2 on Oct 29, 2003

LOL!  Great posting.

But I was sorry to see the Red Sox lose, I had hoped to watch Boston vs. Chicago.  Oh, well.  Baseball is not my passion these days, even though I played it when I was a kid.

Now it's futbol.  Why do gringos call it soccer?  Why do gringos call a game that they play with the hands football?  "Living in the USA.  Somebody give me a cheeseburger!"  Stevie "Guitar" Miller.

Here is the deal.  The next World Cup is going to be in Germany.  Anybody on this list want to go with us?  Just in case you missed it, Germany and you-know-which country, yes, that one, no, not Colombia, played in the final game and Germany got their you-know-whats kicked good.  It was a marvelous match!  Both teams played great.  World Cup is my passion.  But in 2006, the shoe is going to be on the other foot.  We are going to Germany, just to make sure they eat sour krout when we eat cake.

I have to laugh.  There were a couple of list members, LOL!, don't get me started on those two, they are some pieces of jewelry, diamonds, they are, who decided to watch the match between Costa Rica, a country they touted as so great, and such a wonderful place to go to and throw around greenbacks because the country is poor and they could flaunt their swagger to the max.  Anyway, I had indicated a certain club where the you-know-which-country people, especially the young people, including the hotties, would be that night to watch the match between Costa Rica and you-know-which-country.

So these two wonderful guys, so intelligent, went, one of them drove all the way from San Diego to Los Angeles, just to make the scene.  LOL!  Well, it just so happened that the Los Angeles Lakers played a championship game that night, so these geniuses watched basketball.  They sat around expecting Carnaval or some such, and when the girls did not appear before their usual eight o'clock bed time, they left.  We arrived around midnight, and there was a line of people down the block.  Beauties from do you know which country?  Fortunately, we are heavy weights, and were allowed inside.

As we good listers know well, the World Cup in 2002 was played in Korea and Japan, which means that five in the afternoon there is two in the morning here in California.  Real duh stuff, listers.  Those wonderful guys did not wait until the you-know-which-country arrived, they left.  Then complained to me about it.  Can you believe that?  I told them that what they had done was like going to Paris and then not visiting the Eiffel Tower.  No, they will never live it down.

Finally, and the reason for my posting; are there any listers who would like to rendezvous in Germany?  We can get tickets to the matches because we have connections in you-know-which country, from Varig.  Varig buys ten thousand tickets the moment they go on sale, and then we can get tickets from the people we know.  And if you want to go, and if you want to cheer for our side, well, we think it's going to be great.  If you have never been to a World Cup match where you-know-which country is playing, you have not lived.  We were in Pasadena in 1994.  Colorado Boulevard was full of people dancing and singing.  Wow!  When they play the game on the field, it is a party in the stadium.  There is singing and music like Carnaval.  Samba!  There is nothing like it in this world.

I plan to be in Germany for the Cup, but I'll be supporting my country, not Brazil.

Here's a sports history lesson for you B.
Back in the 1800s English private schools played a game involving kicking, running and tackling. Over time the game evolved into two distinct sports. Some schools went with the kicking game. Some, like Rugby, stressed the tackling game. The rules were codified and you had Rugby football and Association football. A quirk of the English is that they like to affix an "er" to nouns. Therefore, you had rugger and soccer.

Oddly enough, the Ivy League schools were originally playing association football in the 1870s, until Harvard decided that the rugby version was superior. The other schools followed suit, and the rest is history.

Hello and thank you.  But I am still a little unsure, I mean, where did the "soc", or "socc", come from?  I don't know the meaning of that part.  Your posting was very well received, thanks again.

Well, I am very happy that you will be in Germany.  Which is your country, that you will be cheering for?  The USA?  The USA has a very strong team.  Many of the players are imported, but that's OK, up to a point.    You can't play against your home country and make points against your home country during the World Cup.  That would be treason.

Anyway, if you want to meet in Germany, that would be OK.  You know that everybody cheers for their home country until their home country is eliminated, and then they cheer for Brazil.

BigB,

Hmmmmm......meeting in Deutschland for the Cup?  Sounds interesting.  Where in Germany will this be held and which dates?  I lived there for 3 years, and actually learned to speak fairly decent German.  It's been about 12 years since I left, but I can still mangle the language well enough.  2 questions:  What is the plan if the current World Champs somehow do not make it?  (I know - bite my tongue!!)
And - how many of those warm, beatiful women will be there to celebrate with us?

World Cup 2006

http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/loc/v/index.html

There you will find the venues.  Nice photos, by the way.  See also:

http://www.fifa.com/index.html

Brazil is doing well in qualifying for the next Cup, although they lost to the USA.  Actually, the USA is very strong, but nobody in the land of Coca-Cola cares about that, in my opinion.  The trouble is that all the good players, like Ronaldinho, leave Brazil to play in some other country, like Spain, where the money is better, and so don't play in the qualifying matches.  Brazil beat Mexico and I am fairly certain that we will see Brazil play in Germany.  If Brazil does not qualify?  That's unthinkable, so I have no idea what we would do then.  Probably not go.  Brazil is the only country that has been in every World Cup since it first began about seventy-five years ago.  Brazil is the only country to win away from home, and the only country to win five times.

In Brazil everything stops during a match, the stock market closes, that's how important it is.  The sale of new televisions skyrockets, there are no cars on the freeway, it's amazing how passionate they are about it.  And if the team wins?  There is dancing in the streets, it's Carnaval.  You have to see it for yourself to believe it.  It's a fire.  I could go on about it but won't.

As I posted before, about ten percent of the people in Brazil have about ninety percent of all the money, so those are the people who will be at the World Cup, the rich ones.  I was very surprised last winter while skiing in Aspen, I am from Colorado, and there were so many Brazilians there.  Let's do the math, ten percent of one hundred and eighty million people.  Yeah, enough to fill a stadium.

If you have never been to a match with Brazil, you have not lived.  When the team is on the field, it's a party in the stadium.  They dance, they sing, it's the Samba.  They don't stop.  Samba is not a dance as you would think of dance, it's a procession, it's a testament to life.  It's amazing.  They wave their hands in the air, they are going to make you move your feet and shout.  I get crazy during World Cup, it's a fever, there is no cure, the only medicine is the next match.

I'm originally from Chicago. I drove seven hours just to watch the cubs lose that final game. I just thought I'd be a part of what I thought could be history in the making. But as always, the Cubs always find a way to lose in the end. Even the fans sometimes join in to help them lose :-))

Heyyyy Jslo,

No need to mention something about Latinas in your post if ya really wanted to remind us about your accurate prediction.  Man, you should have been a bookie!

I too was rooting for the Marlins.  Any team is better then them dang yankees, or wait, is it just Stienbrenner I don't like?  After all, they did have good guys playing for them like Scott Brosius, Oregon's hometown hero.

BTW, don't forget to sign the Yankee "petition":

I was really trying to elicit a response from the Yankee cheerleader who has vanished from the board again. ;-)
I appreciate the input though, especially the petition. Dallas Steve brought up the tradition that I am really proud of, never losing in the big one! Congrats to the Champs.

I am a Met fan though. I was rooting for a Cubs/Sox series as well. It would have been great for baseball. Ole george steinbrenner will most likely go nuts and buy a few more expensive free agents to ensure another WS appearance.

I was rotting for the Sox, and Grady deserved to get booted.
