My wife has been sick for about 2 weeks, she went to the hospital mon. and stayed there till today. They told her she had Luekime but it wasn't serious gave her some meds. and told her if she doesn't feel better come back in two weeks. She went in because of headaches and throwing up.I called my doctor and she said all Luekime is serious and the only reason she could think they would tell her that is they can't do anything for my wife so they they gave her some meds for the pain,to comfor her.I am very worried and I guess I am asking for advice, maybe someone has heard of doctors over there being wrong anything. Thanks

the best thing that you can do is to request her to get a copy of the medical results for confirmation of the diagnosis.

It is also very important to:
1.  find out what kind of tests she underwent
2.  where she had the tests  (clinic/hospital/etc.)
3.  exactly what were the prescriptions and further instructions given her

I think Outwest has a point, too...it is highly unlikely to confuse leukemia with anemia.

St. Luke's Medical Center is still the best hospital to go to for a second opinion.

I am in Manila and I'll be very willing to help in any way I can.

God bless.

How does leukemia sound like anemia, could also
be toxemia, many other medical terms ending in
.....emia.

You can obtain the lab work that was done in the ER and post it on the board and I will tell you what it represents.  She may need to see a hematologist for evaluation.  There are many different types of leukemias.  Anemia is a good possiblility and is easily treated depending on the etiology.

Good luck

Doug, check out the site below...being a blood related cancer disease you don't want to mess around with this..if the diagnosis is correct as Acute or Chronic..And yes doctors have been wrong in PI as they are here too, but if this is a real case, just giving a person some pills and telling them to check back could be a bad sign. Don't get me wrong their are excellent doctors in PI too, those that have practiced here in the U.S. and returned. But better to have a second opinion in this case...

She might have anemia and not leukemia.  Go have her get a second opinion--(tell her to go to Philippine General Hospital or St. Luke's) just to make sure and to make you feel better too.

Where is she  in the Philippines? Carrise might be right
that  it's  anemia and not leukemia.  She probably
mishear it. No doctor will said like that I guess when it's
really leukemia. My sister died when she was 10 years
old  because of  that leukemia.

Zebson, if it's really leukemia please don't waste time.

She is in Novalichese, Quezon City.It didn't sound right to me that they said it wasn't serious,to come in a week if the medicne doesn't help. She also said they told her to cut her hair to shoulder length? We have a daughter so I would have thought if she had Leukemia they would have caught it when she was pregrant.Any info is appericated.

Doug,

Let her verify first if it's really leukemia or call the doctor
so you will be sure.  Then,   if it's really leukemia you
really have to do something about it, don't waste time.

I hope it's not.

Doug,

I agree with Carrisse. Call your fiancee and find out what it is exactly. Medical terms are often pronounced very differntly in the Philippines, even though they are spelled the same as in the US. I have found this out while speaking with my fiancee who is a nurse. Leukemia is very serious, but can often be successfully treated with good medical care. Anemia on the other hand is very common, especially in the Philippines, and not usually serious. It is usually treated with a few pills like you described. If it is the former, get her the best private medical care you can find. The public health care system will give up on her quickly.

Good Luck Doug! My prayers are with you both.
