From the US EMBASSY WEB SITE FOR BOGOTA:

"We regret to inform that there will be NO VISA SERVICES (immigrant and non-immigrant) from December 19 to 25, 2002."

Yahoo News is implying that this is security related, though no specific details were given. Perhaps only related to the holiday, does anybody know anything about this?

citing "creditable threats of terrorism over the holiday period".....wonder what's going to happen? You be careful, Calipro, you are expendable Smiley  but we wouldn't want your novia to get hurt.

I can tell everyone this, I was in the embassy on Monday and Tuesday.  On Monday I walked in and no one asked for my passport.  On Tuesday when my wife and I walked in together they asked for mine but nothing from her.

There is always something with a problem, when it comes to business in Colombia !!!!

The only they (Colombians) get right, is they know how to party, the girls know how to dress, and they are the experts at both.

The story in El Pais in Spanish is at:

http://elpais-cali.terra.com.co/paisonline/notas/Diciembre192002/A419N1.html

It says the move is a "temporary security measure".  Sources say there has been some credible information that the FARC may launch an attack against the US diplomats.  The story says that it is suspected the embassy is going to strengthen its defenses during this temporary closure.

The embassy will still be open to provide emergency assistance to Americans in Colombia.

Also on the El Pais website you can select "modelos":

It doesn't say, but I suppose they are Colombianas.  Sometimes they are wearing bikinis.  Sometimes they are not.  ;-)

The closure is not routine it's a "special security measure". The story is in todays El Pais.
