... in response to Like as a MOB couple, posted by Patrick on Nov 26, 2002

It always amazes me, how AW feel more "enlightened" than women from "Third World" countries.  They (AW) feel that they have to teach their "little sisters" the ways of the world, many of which have never left their own state, let alone country.  I've heard educated, intelligent AW talk about foreign women as if they were 12 and never been out of the house.  This said, they get insulted when the foreign born woman doesn't hang on every word.  Well I'll step off the soap box now :-)

Take care,

Mark

The way I see it--I love to travel and truely learn about other cultures. These AW seem to think they are obligated to "help" other people--but always putting their upbringing and way of life as an example....perhaps good intentions but horrendous advice---God Bless--Colman

I didn't see the show but I know that Nelson representing his current company LAI was on Colombian TV within the last month with several men and women from the agency and supposedly it was a very positive experience, so perhaps the prejudice against "MOB" is easing.  1998 is really a long time ago in the timeline of recent world events.  Since the inception of the internet in 1994, and its commonplace use in the late 1990's a more global viewpoint of relationships is starting to prevail on the world consciousness in my opinion.  While there are still critics of chatroom romances, and mail order brides, I think the world is a smaller place than even 1998 and there are less negative connotations associated with it.  Not gone, but lessened.

Hi. I don't think the criticism of the MOB industry has gotten less. Last month of the "Rikki Lake Show," she was "investigating Mail Order Brides." It was the same usual attacks ("Men who are involved in this are expoliting poor women, etc."). Too much.

Tabloid TV never grows up.  They are still sensationalizing the same topics Phil Donahue did 25 years ago.  But a lot of people are opening up their view of the world and see it as a smaller place.  I have had my fair share of people tell me that all MOBs must be after a green card, but I have also had a lot of understanding and enthusiasm from co-workers and friends who don't have their heads up their butts.
