Has anyone used moneygram before to transfer funds to Colombia?  They said it would cost me $38 to send $500.  I also asked them if the person collecting pays any fees and what the exchange rate is.  They said that the person collecting doesn’t pay fees.  However, when I tried to pin them down on the exhange rate I couldn’t get a straight answer.  The representative just kept repeating a line that the exchange rate is not “gauranteed”.  When I asked does this mean I can send $500 and the person receiving only gets $50 he said yes but you have come to an illogical conclusion.  I then said, “I am trying to find out what you use to determine the exchange rate”.  I couldn’t get a straight answer.  Has anyone every used moneygram?  Can they be trusted?

Yes MG is a trustworthy company. I just used them a few days ago. The fees they charge are less than WU. Beneficiary never pays any fees, no. Beneficiary collects money in pesos, not dollars. How much he/she collects depends on the exch rate that changes all the time (within reasonable amounts). He/she will receive approximately 500us in pesos +/- a couple of buks consumed by exchange rate fluctuation. Also keep in mind that it works both ways (up and down), so he/she may actually wind up getting more than you sent (in pesos).
