Last week I reported that the priest's secretary at a local church we consulted told us among other things I would need a special paper since I belong to no religious group. Today we went to the Iglesia de La Merced in el centro and picked it up. It's called "Dispenso de Impedimento" ($2.000). Evidently I will go for an interview with the priest and he will fill out the form. It appears that that pretty well takes care of the religious end. I haven't talked to a lawyer yet but for the civil part I figure I'll need at least birth certificate and divorce translated certified, notorized and apostiled. Now I'm wondering if the translation has to be notorized and apostiled in the US, can I have the translations done here, certified and take them to the US for the notory and apostile. A notory only verifies a signature not the content of a document and the apostile just verifies the legitimacy of the notory so in theory I could just sign the translation somewhere and so on. For translations required for my visa I got socked a hundred dollars a page in St. Louis. Finally can anyone recommend a certified translater in Cali. To anyone who would like to shed some light remember that this marriage has nothing to do with the US Embassy in Bogota and it's requirements as far as I know because I'm not trying to take her to the US.
