I just sent some important papers to Cali to be signed using the Post office's new service Global priority Mail it was $9.00 for 4-5 day delivery. I understand they contract with DHL. That was almost 2 weeks ago apparently I would have been better off using a carrier pigeon cause they never made it.. I just tried using DHL direct service from Cali to the USA bypassing the Postal service and it's here tomorrow 3 days. You can also track the progress. Be wise or pay twice.

I just tried to send a letter via Fedex from Cali to the US. The cost would have been $70.000 but the address was a p.o. box so had to send by the slow boat at $6.000. Told me 12-15 days.

has handled all of our documents, without any problems. Just before Stivalis's 2nd interview, the NY rep recommended that the documents be shipped & held at the airport in Bogota for Stivalis to pick them up, when she arrived in Bogota. These doc's were extremely important!!! The rep was very familiar with the process of handling Embassy related documents. She recommended as few changing points as possible. Meaning that since Bogota is the first place the documents get too, let them stay there! NYC to Bogota in 24 hours...

... in response to Avianca Express..., posted by Hoda on Oct 18, 2002

I have used Avianca Express 5 or 6 times to Cali and Barranquilla.  It costs 15 bucks from Miami to Colombia and that is delivered to the house.  10 bucks if they want to pick it up in Colombia.  My friend just sent something to Barranquilla this week;  he got it to Miami Tuesday morning and his girlfriend picked it up that nite!

All you have to do is call their 800 number and mail it to Miami in an envelope and they take care of the rest.  Never had any problems.

I sent my girlfriend a DVD player and several movies using Avianca Express.  I shipped it to the Miami address, they e-mailed me with the cost and I paid them over the phone via credit card.  She received the package the next day.  I was very surprised with the service.

Only time I ever used them, my package (manila envelope, 9 x 12, with some documents and a CD, all properly packed) arrived a week later than they promissed, half the documents missing and the CD broken.

I would avoid any shipping that puts it in the hands of the Colombian postal system. You can do a priority mail with the US postal service and it may get to Colombia in 2 or 3 days but from there who knows.I have used UPS.It costs $43.They say 2 day delivery,it takes 3.
No matter how you send the envelope it is subject to being opened by Colombian customs.I made the mistake of sending $500 cash and some documents in a UPS envelope, thinking UPS would put it right in their hands. They did, minus the $500.I called UPS,who of course say don't send cash. They said Colombian customs opens everything and someone there probably stole the money.
My wife sent 4 envelopes regular mail.We had some pesos left over, she put them between pictures in the envelope.I told her not to do it but she thought she was clever.2 of the 4 envelpopes got there,3 weeks later, without the money. She was pissed. She said "those stupid people." I said they are not so stupid, they got your money.I told her they probably took the rest of the day off and headed for the nearest bar.She was not amused.

That is making me wonder now. I just sent a letter and some photos via "Global Priority Letter" on the 8th and I don't know if she got it yet. It was 5 dollars and I used that small letter envelope that they have.I only hear from her about every 9 days, so I should find out soon.
The only other thing in there were a couple of reply coupons.

Try using International Express mail with them. I think you will find it much quicker and they also give you a tracking number to keep tabs on where it`s at. It`s about $20-25 though, but worth it.
