Pete the processing times can be found on various websites. I think they are processing cases from August. The service center in TX is currently at 30 days.

Also I'm usng a guy to help my novia with her end of the paperwork in Cali Colombia. He's an American/Colombian who's done many of them. I'd say he's an expert cause I've seen him in action. If your friend's looking for similar help let me know.

(949) 831-8427 is the number for the INS location in Laguna Niguel. Once there you enter your case number (once you have one) and the recording will tell you the status on your case. By the way . . . no one is getting 45 day approvals anymore since 9/11. The recording actually tells you that the average wait is 80-90 days. Then you wait an additional 30-45 days for the appointment in Bogota.

A friend of mine is going through the process right now here in San Diego. He is marrying a Russian woman. He is pushing 100 days. Says it has something to do with new FBI procedures on background checks.

Let's assume that the paperwork is absolutely perfect and Pete's friend mails off the first packet today and the INS receives it on Friday.  What are you saying will happen in 45 days?  I'd be amazed if she'd have her VISA in hand that quick!!

There are two steps in filing for a Fiance Visa. First, it must be initiated in the USA by the US citizen. Then once all the information has been accumulated, verifed and otherwise checked out by the INS in the US, a packet of all of these documents is then sent via diplomatic mail to the US embassy in the country, in this case Bogota. The Embassy there then takes it over and schedules an interview, medical exam, etc before issuing the Visa. Normally the USA portion of the process takes from one month to 3 months, with the historical norm being about 6 weeks. I believe this was was Pete was asking about. The other part can also take from 1 to 3 months, with the norm being 6 weeks.
