my wife received her VISA.  The woman who interviewed her asked a total of 5 questions:  what is you mothers/fathers name? What is your phone number?  Have you ever been married?  Has your husband ever been married? "Looks like everthing is in order, come back at three o'clock for your VISA." This was after a four hour wait in the waiting area.   Arrived at 7am called at 11am.  Went to lunch and then picked up the VISA at 3 pm.

Three of the five ladies did not receive their VISA because: one gals birht certificate had an error on it.  One gals husband did not give her his copies of his income tax papers and the third had no Affidavit of Support. My wife and a young gal in her 20's had everthing in order.  I dont think the Embassy officials were being jerks,  I think the papers they requested are procedurally required.

I do thank all the guys who offered advise and help along the way.  The info found here is up to date and valuable for anyone seeking a relationship in SA, (mainly Cali  hehe).

hasta guys...

I feel for the other wives. But for the guys not to provide the women with the tax forms or the Affidavit of Support form is inexcusable!!!! These two forms are the BIGGIES, in regards to what the guy has to provide for the visa. What on earth were they thinking?

Best of luck to you & yours.....

Ken,
Did you have the marriage visa stamp on your passport when you married?

I ran across a link for an attorney in Cali named Carlos Dorado who says he will do the marriage for 300 bucks.  He says he does not need any documents translated into Spanish nor receive an apostille on any documents.  I am curious if anyone has dealt with him.

Thanks

I did not have a stamped marriage VISA.  Some Notaries can do this (marry you) at will while other refuse to (so I hear).  Check Garybala.com he has a list of ligit. lawyers on his site that reside in Cali, the fellow you mentioned may be listed there.

What was the total time it took to obtain your wife's visa from the time you filed your application?

We filed on the 20th of Aug.  Her appointment  was set for the 23 of Sept.  33 days total.  This was of course the spousal VISA, not the Fiancee VISA.
