I wanted to post an observation about the kinds of Americans I saw and or met in Colombia. At the airport I got to meet Cali-Pro (whats up man!). Had a good conversation about Cali etc. When I was entering the plane for Miami to Cali I saw at least 10 Americans. I felt a little akward not wanting to be indentified with the steroetype american gringo going south looking for a teenage bride. No offence. One of the fellow who works for AA said of a man of about 65 who was obviously going down looking for a woman "I can tell that marriage wont last long." Whether his statement is true or not, people are stereotyped when you go through this process. When I got off the plane another fellow of about 55 peppered me with several questions about the K1 vs Spousal visa and he had thought the K1 was quicker etc, etc. For being so wealthy (a sign of prudence?) I was surprised he did not understand such a serious issue. Not real sensible.
I did venture down to Ave Sexta just because I hear so much about it on this board. We went to Coconuts, a brand new Disco/club. A block off the strip. I noticed three Americans there. One did not speak a lick of Spanish and was double dating with a interpretor. Lady seemed uninterested - Did not look promising. The other two were with three gals too far away to observe what was up.
Saw a couple of guys in their late 20 or so at Chipi Chapa (sp). Were not talkingto girls just hanging out. I also saw a couple of guys in their mid late 20's at the embassy. Surprising. I thought 40 and up the majority. It may be shifting.
Last American I meet were on the plane back from Cali. I was a seat away from the guy and he started chatting about how his buddy invited him down to party and do the Whore house thing. I was offended. His buddy spoke fluent Spanish and started getting mouthy with a Cali girl. He told me a few stories about guys in Miami who have married Cali girls and then divorced them leaving them on the streets ...literally. He also tlod me he had meet guys in Cali who proposed after just meeting, (I have heard that before).
Interesting characters who are involved in this endeavor.
Just my observation.
