The main carrier to Managua, Nicaragua appears to have doubled its fares.  I went there twice this year for about $650 each r/t flight on Continental from Denver.  The fare now is $1300, regardless of how soon a flight is purchased.

I have a travel agent seeking lower fares, but I am miffed.

when I was booking a flight for my wife to visit her family in Cali.  What I found out is if she stays longer than 30 days they jack the price up.  It is not on the international portion of the flight, but on the domestic portion if you stay more than 30 days they raise the rate.  I guess they figure no one is going to want to stay more than 30 days at their US destination??

having the person flying to find out how much it is with the local dealers in Managua?

120 days is going to cost you around $1300. Its gonna be very difficult to find something cheaper.

I just checked the expedia website. For your friend leaving September 25th and returning January 15th 2003 is $1251 total price with Continental Airlines.

Ok. I checked The American website. For example, leaving September 25th from Nanagua and returning January 25th 2003 will cost you $1130.56. The down side to it, of course is that your friend will have to go from Managua to Miami and from Miami to Dallas Fort Worth and then to Denver INTl Airport. These tickets go fast.

Well just change your dates and you should see the difference. Try 2 weeks stay with 2 weekends included.

Go to travelocity.com, then go to farewatcher and type in the airport codes.  Whenever the fare drops you will recieve an e-mail. I have dfw/sjo in farewatcher and I got an e-mail with a sale. So I booked Dallas to San Jose, Costa Rica for $265.00. the next day I checked the price and it was $930 for the exact same flights I had. But I didn't book it at travelocity, instead I booked at Continental.com which will have the same prices and you recieve onepass miles and they just sned you a letter which is the ticket. travelocity charges $14.50 for ticket delivery.

Hankhh,

That sounds like a great suggestion and I will try it.  However, I have two variables I did not explain that may affect my ability to get the best price.

1.  The time period between the r/t flight is four months.  The first leg will be later this month, and the return will be in January 2003.

2.  The flight will originate in Managua, not in Denver.  (I am booking a flight for my former Spanish teacher who will come here for four months to study English).

The American Airline website for a flight to Managua leaving from Denver Int Airpor 09/25/02 and returning 10/10/02. That will mean 2 weeks in Managua. The lowest cost showing up is $650 round trip.

Website is www.aa.com
