Hi - I posted this on LWL and thought some fence sitters/first time visitors might have interest:

I spent Aug 2-10 in Bogotá (first visit) and have posted some photos at www.picturetrail.com.  There are three albums and you need to type
"brighton" as the member name to view the albums.  I'll post a travelogue of sorts a little bit later.

Please pardon the photography, I was also a beginner with a digital camera. I really enjoyed the plazas of Chia, Cajica and Zipaquira and there are many photos of these areas. I haven't uploaded any shots of Bolivar Plaza, the Catedral de Sal, etc. as those are readily available online or in books and postcards.

Judging from the faces of the people I told about it, the one plaza I should NOT have visited (alone, no less) was San Victorino in Bogotá! But that's another story I'll include in my "trip report."

Chris,

Oh yes, the women! How could I forget? (haha)  I just uploaded the pictures today and haven't asked the women for permission to post close ups. The two women I spent time with (this was a vacation, not a mate-finding trip) are referenced in my "hiding" pictures and one of them is on a park bench in Zipaquira.

Anyway, I agree that the women are friendly, beautiful and available. I stayed most of the time at Charlie's because it's a good place for a first timer. Then I spent a couple of nights at Hotel San Simon. I'm not a member of LAI but it sure was tempting to become one. Someone mentioned on this forum or elsewhere that Claudia (an employee) was a nice combination of looks and personality.  I agree but would add that Luz, who works at the front desk is "cute as a button" (as my mother might say).  And it always brought a smile to this Minnesotan's face to see her come in each morning (maybe 45 degrees F) wearing gloves and a scarf!

My biggest surprise in the man/woman/dating thing was at Gato Negro in Parque 93.  After being stared at wherever I went by young, old, rich, poor - nobody took a second look in Gato Negro.  The place was packed with gringos (meaning Americans and Europeans) and I later learned it's a popular hangout for the expatriates at the multinationals and embassies.  It's also the only place I paid much attention to prices - it isn't NY or LA steep, but they're as or more expensive than a lot of places in Mpls.

I'll write more experiences and observations later this week.

Regards,

David
