... in response to They are..., posted by lex on Aug 27, 2002

Do you honestly think that you have in essence swayed ONE person from traveling to Colombia--I mean you may have but, this forum and the theme of "foreign brides" involve risk, money, time, effort, patience and COMMOM SENSE.  Again you may not believe it but people are going to Colombia whether you think they are crazy for doing so or not.  I believe everyone wishing to travel to Colombia have common sense enought to know the "dos" and "donts". In fact, I believe this forum serves that purpose to an extent.  I mean its just my opinion but I believe someone so "worried" about people's safety in Colombia when everybody already knows the risks involve is fostering a disservice to the forum. Yes you are entitled to your opinion but everytime you post statistics and negativity about Colombia (in your humble heart and soul to prevent people from getting hurt or killed) it seems the responses you get either balances your point of view or initiates an endless debate on why they are still going to go in spite of your well-intentioned advise. Dude, I think everybody appreciates your concern but please enough, I admitedly would respond to your statistics or negativity but realize its a waste of my time so this is the last response and I urged you to take my advice--tenga una buena vida y Dios lo bendiga......mucho...Colman

... in response to valid-point but........., posted by colman on Aug 27, 2002

aren't guarantee's to protect you, but where can you go on this planet and receive a safety guarantee? That report on Colombia has been out since early 99. I've read the report. I'm not discounting the report, but I didn't let one source be the sole determining factor. My lady along with her family & friends asked me about the level of violence in our primary & secondary schools. With her being a teacher, the thought of students & staff going through metal detectors BEFORE class starts, makes her nervous! Bottom line, is there danger in Colombia? Hell yeah!! But the same can be said about the middle east, many parts of Africa, Europe & Asia.

You gotta come out of your house, sooner or later....

Colman, while I understand your patriotism, warnings such as Lex posted are appropriate. His statistics are the generally accepted numbers. Calipro is correct that the risk is not evenly distributed throughout the country. The stats help explain motivation of the ladies; they also serve as a warning to newbies who may be looking in after reading all the agency hype. The risk to gringos is not zero, assessing the risk requires good information.

Secondly, the "model airplane" thing is not a joke. Have you seen the radio controlled airplanes that hobbyists fly from the ground? Some have wingspans of several feet and could certainly deliver explosives to targets.

I know the model airplanes are not a joke, but like I stated in an eariler post, I believe the capture of these model planes by the Colombian army/police will be a new found of "hope" to rid the country of the FARC....I think so far the president is doing a great job and hope he continues....hey (just as an example) look how long it took the U.S. to rid itself of the Jim Crow laws in this country I mean for God's sake it was less than a decade before I was born that the U.S. government-approved status of having laws synonymous with apartheid. Kiss my @ss for those of you people who are going to criticize me for bringing up an embarrassing moment in this country, I do so to illustrate a point I am making.  As far as the warnings, I believe people who are ignorant of the social status qou of a nation to wish to be traveling is on them.---Colman

It seems for the most part when people rightfully criticize Colombia for its domestic problems, its okay to do so but when I try to illustrate the ills of the U.S. it seems this bothers people and they seem to think since I was born in this country I should not say anything negative about or illustrate compare and contrast examples, so that is why I am letting people know they can opinionate how they wish but if they think I am going to change for their benefit, I repeat kiss my @zz...Colman

Some very smart, fine Colombiana probably drop your 5th grade education level @zz and that is why your are so bitter with the Colombianas. Amigo, looks like you need the brain, but at least the "cabron" part you got right...lol...keep up the good work Robertito....LMAO.....lol--Colman (Colombian-American--para que se enoje mas...)

I am an American and proud, in the military with a masters degree cabron. What do you do for a living? What do you do to really make a difference in the Colombia that you love? Nothing you hide here and look for desperate women there that want to fly the coop. If you had any nuts you would get that dual citizen ship, go back and join the army and support Uribe 110%. Actions speak louder than words. We say cabron in a joking way or when we are with your women, which is a lot. You are a COLMAN, too bad you don't have a set to go home and really make a change. Must suck having thousands of your women flying the coop to get out of that hellhole. I now understand you anger, buena suerte nena! Your new name is COMEMIERDA.

I will repeat I am not saying FARC and JIM CROW are equal in nature, my point is both countries have negativities, problems that will haunt them forever....you see how simple that is?  Both countries have unique problems.....both countries have unique problems....both countries have unique problems...Colman
