... in response to How much time do you have?, posted by Pete E on Aug 22, 2002

I have lived for several months a year in the poorer Central American countries.  The girls you are likely to meet are uneducated and unsophisticated.  The vast majority of girls who are lucky enough to work at a maquila have a 9th grade (that's their 9th grade) education or less.  A lot are semi-literate in their own language.  I found it somewhat difficult to meet educated women because there are so few of them.  Keep in mind that Colombia is much wealthier than the above cited countries and Colombia also seems to be a broader income distribution.  On the other hand, I found a lot of the girls in Central America to be honest, sweet and unassuming, so I guess its simply a question of what you're looking for.  Also, Petey I mean Pete E is right; if you don't speak Spanish-forget it.

Burbuja2

that sounds not very attracting for me...:-(

I am not after an university degree lady....
But neither will a 9th grader do.....
I yhink we must have a common intelligence basis for communication. (I don't mean the language here).

I guess central America is off for now.....

What about panama or Costa Rica???

HC.

Panama and Costa Rica are a different ballgame.  The income and educational levels are much higher in both countries.  Personally, I think Panama is your best bet.  Due to the historical U.S. presence, a lot of people speak some English.  Also, Panama is one of the few Latin countries where public safety has actually gotten better over the years.  With the exception of Colon, safety is comparable to the U.S..  The scenery in both countries is varied and breathtaking.  To me, the problem with Costa Rica is that it has been inundated with U.S. and Canadian tourists over the past 15 years. Also, it has become a mecca for sex tourists which has altered expectations in some sectors.  Last, I agree withn your comment about a mutual basis of intelligence so one partner does not completely dominate the other.  That is why I lived in El Salvador but I'm marrying a bank executive from Colombia.
