check with the local consulate!  Better to ask the so-called experts than rely on others experience in this matter.  Potentially you have a better arguement with customs officials if you have a consulate document.

For example, from my own experience, Philippines and Malaysia require that your passport must be valid for at least 6 mos more from your entry date, even though you may only be staying a couple of days.  However, frequently they have changed this to one year, without significant notification.  This caused me to lose a days business on one of my trips.

Take care,

Mark

What I know is that if you travel to Canada. She doesn't need a visa. Just show them her green card if they ask.

of the country you are going to visit. I am a filipina with a Permanent Residence card (greencard). My husband (american) and I are planning to visit Rome in December. We inquired at the Italian Consulate and I do need a Tourist Visa. And in order to get a Tourist Visa I need to submit together with my application lots of documents.

Hope this helps. Goodluck to both of you.

If you're referring to international travel and your wife has her green card (i.e. unconditional permanent resident) than you can travel abroad.  However, there may be some requirements for specific countries that differ for her versus you.  We went to Mexico several months ago and my wife had to get some additional paper work from the Colombian embassy for her entry into Mexico.  For some reason we can travel by car into and out of Mexico without anything other than her green card, but the airline said she would have to get the paperwork for her entry via air.  I suspect this was more of an airline requirement rather than governmental.

None, just go. I've been all over the world with my wife, who has a green card and a passport from her native country. If you need a visa to go somewhere, so will she, but other than that, it's just as if she were a US citizen from a traveling standpoint. She's also entititled to go through the US citizen lines when returning home, when traveling with you.

Jeff,

You are wrong.

If she has a Colombian passport, in some countries she is going to need a visa even if you don't.  I recently ran into this when we went to Costa Rica.  I had to drive to Los Angeles to the Costa Rican Embassy two times to get her Costa Rican tourist visa.  It was a pain in the butt.  The brown Colombian passport often comes with discrimination abroad.  Don't assume anything.  Contact the country you will be visiting 1st to avoid any surprises.

I thought in the beginning that the US green card should be good enough for any country too.  If the US lets her in, then all other countries should too.  This is typical arrogant American attitude that I held too.

Even though you are married she still doesn't have the same priveledges as you until she gets the magical blue passport.

Good Luck
Wayne

Very true. GC does not give any privileges whatsoever when it comes to entering other countries. Entry requirements are based on citizenship not residency hence until she received hers she would be treated as any Colombian citizen would.

The only good thing about GC is that it plays an important role while obtainign entry visa.

Also remember that some countries are visa free for both you (as American) and her (as Colombian).

My wife doesn't have a Colombian passport so I haven't run into that. It's good to know.

Hi Jeff. I read your profile and your wife is Japanese, right? Japaneses don't need a visa to most countries. They receive the same treatment as Western Europeans.
