If you can only afford one trip to Colombia for one interview, go personally for the 2nd interview.   The 1st interview as Hoda has proven is nothing.  That is the one that they look at and ask about your financials and stuff.  Since I own my own business, I would not have wanted my wife to have to dig through that mountain of paperwork alone at the window.

Also flying back to the States together is a really good thing.

Wayne,
As we discussed below the first interview is mandatory.I didn't know I could go to the second, but should have. The things they wanted were nonsense I think.Maybe I could have talked them out of them. They were:
1.My employment letter didn't state a salary.Yeah,I work on commission, had 3 years tax returns and year to date income print out.Plus my pension is more than enough income itself to qualify without showing any more income.
2.A second set of original documents for my step sons application. If you have one set of originals doesn't that prove it so you can take a copy for the second application?
3.Another set of original w-2's and 1099's to go with the above.Same solution. You have one original set.
4.An affidavid of support for my step son also, notorized. As in get it notorized in the US.I have been told they have notaries in the Embassy.
Maybe I could have talked them out of this nonsense if I was there.I had been told (not by them)they did not want me at the second appointment.I think that was Buds presumption.
Anyway I am waiting at the hotel all day.Actuially there was a panic call from my wife,I had to take her more money then went back to the hotel. She shops up about 5.30.We are trying to catch a 7.00 back to Cali. When she showed me the list of things I didn't feel like fighting it.I will just fly back early and send it to you.I was ready to head home.We missed the 7.oo flight because of the foot of rain in the streets. We caught one about 8.30.This was Tuesday.I spent Wednesday in Cali and flew bac Thursday.
When my wife went back 2 weeks later we were not sure she would get the visa but she did.2 days later I met her in Miami. So we got delayed 2 weeks, she flew to Miami and through immigration by herself, plus I had to buy an extra round trip to Miami(and travel). All over what was probably just nonsense.Bud had told me don't argue with them.If you do they will close the window, keeo your documents and you are back to square one.In hind sight if I had paid Gary Bala the $800 or so I could have avoided problems(not all listed here)That cost me thousands and weeks. But most guys will not have the problems I did.
I don't want to worry you Howard, you are probably fine, but not for sure.

Wayne,

I think the first interview is mandatory for the husband to be there. The second interiew is option for the husband. Remember when the agent asked if my wife was with me? They may not be so inclined to wave off the husband not being there, if the wife came to the window. Just a thought. I'm not gonna make the second interview, but I'm definitely flying back with Stivalis. Miami can be rather intimidating because of it's size & the INS. Besides, she's gonna have a s*$# load of luggage. Guess who's gonna have to help...lol!

Hoda my man. I did the same thing
There for the first interview (mandatory)
Not there for the second
Met her in Miami.
Yeah its probably better that you go to Cali and come into Miami with her. Jennifers flight came in at 11am and she didnt come out of immigration until 3:30. It was an agonizing wait. She did say they didnt give her a hard time or anything just alot of sitting around. Im suprised you have to wait so long for the 2nd interview. They scheduled hers 2 weeks from the day of the 1st one. Good luck man your 1/2 way there!

That "waiting around" thing may be part of the "Mule check" thing they (INS/CUSTOMS) have in place to check for smugglers. When I come back w/Stivalis, I plan on having our connecting flight atleast 2-3 hours later. Just to offset any "waiting time" we'll have to endure in Miami. I can't complain at all, about the way we were treated at the Embassy. Atleast during the first interview...(crossing fingers for the 2nd...lol)
