It is being a kind of oblivious to say it's Aaron who is looking for trouble. Go back a paragraph or two and you'll remember that it was Aaron who out of the blue received an insulting offboard e-mail from the address robbysanjuan@netscape.net. I received one too from that address and the guy wanted to talk about flatulence but neglected to use the text box. Just as well. Since the robbysanjuan who writes on this board has a different address listed in his profile who knows who's behind the letter writing campaign. In any case trouble came looking for Aaron not the other way around.

Well that clears that up .. Aaron is the one who points the finger calling somebody else a racist. The e-mail had nothing racist in it. The e-mail maybe should not have been sent but netscape.net is alittle common kinda like yahoo.com aol.com so to try to connect the two I think you are off base on that one.

If I remember correctly "cabron" literally means male goat.  There is no one-to-one translation.  I think of it like calling someone an azzhole or something.  I've often heard Latino friends call each other cabron, but in this case, I don't think it was meant in a friendly way.

You guys need to at least correctly read the words before you start trying to translate them.

Carbon is the spanish word for charcoal.  Also, some people use the word to describe a very dark skinned person. So if you are a black man in Latin America and you hear someone say " El Negrito Carbon", they may be talking about.  Which means that if you are going to South America to find a bride, you better learn spanish!

Yes but negrito, means little black guy, so that , in itself
is an insult if the guy is just dark skinned i would think,

As for learning spanish i took 2 yrs and can converse
so so, but when they hear me speak it they think i know spanish and start blabbing 1000 miles an hour and i lose
track fast. Even americans who know spanish, speak a different dialect than even that  spoken in certain parts of south america , mexico etc. In my state, they speak
a slang , bad version of spanish , that is looked down upon
by educated spaniards from Spain, for example, or many Mexicans from Mexico city, who often speak more of a Castillian (sp) spanish. I think even a fluent spanish speaker in the usa would not necessarily have an easy time in South America.

Yeah but calling someone mi negro is not an insult and is considered an affectionate term. Some people even use it with white guys, but in most cases they say guero.

I remember from studying Spanish that at least two of the text books agree with you.

After some time spent in classes I find understanding educated Spanish speakers fairly easy probobly because they speak pretty much the way I learned from the books. Spanish from up in the pueblos is something else though and I've got a ways to go learning to hear that. When I went with a calena to Choco on the Pacific coast neither one of us understood the locals.
