Hi,First off we did not file for K-1 so there is no record of our engagement.I sent her a notarized letter of invitation from my family & I,letting her know we would take care of all expenses while she is here. She had a copy of her lease for the past 3 years. Her employer gave her a letter stating her employment and that they expected her to return. Her father gave her a letter stating the family assets.I got letters from my US Senator,US Congressman and my State Congressman-stating that they are asking for the embassy to "give her every cooperation and consideration under the law".The US Senator also asked to recieve a report on the interview and the results.I sent her $500 to put in her bank account,to show that she had back-up money. What did the trick?Who knows.I am sure once she gets here I will get a ful report.I'll pass on any info. I get.Good Luck-Buck

Buck,
You really went all out to get her the tourist visa.I'm impressed. You are going to be on a political contribution hit list for a long time!
I have to think that even all of this might not work right now out of Colombia.I hear its almost impossible to get a tourist visa from Colombia to the US.Might have something to do with how many Colombians just never went back.Perhaps this is not as big an issue with Peruvians.

You went to all this trouble for a girl that is 30 some years younger than yourself ?? Can you say "Green card shark" ? I can not understand how some men on this board can possibly think how they have anything in common with a girl this age. At that age Tom they are still considered a girl and not a woman. Good luck.

Buck is in a great possition to get to know her without the pressure of the fiance visa or having to marry her.She sounds like anything but a green card shark.
And I'll say it again, much of the world does not have the same attitude about age difference as the US.Don'tjudge them by your notions of what is proper.

Congratulations, indeed!  I'm not sure where Marinette, WI is but did you tell your bride-to-be that it snowed in Minneapolis on April 22nd (after 90 degree temps last wk)?  What a crazy year it's been.  Seriously, though, I'd be curious to learn how she views the climate so I hope you're still posting in November. I have not travelled to SA yet but wonder if a city like Bogota might be a better bet as compared to the tropical cities...?  Best wishes.  --David

Hi,Marinette is in the very N.E. corner of WI.I have been honest about our weather and she is somewhat worried about the temps. But of more concern is that we are not on a ocean. She thinks there will be no beaches.Havn't been able to convince her yet that Lake MI has a couple.Next she is concerned about a lack of latin dance clubs.Next is the lack of peruvian restaraunts. This is one of the reasons I wanted her to come visit. So she can see for herself.Good Luck to all.Buck

My lady is a City lady (Cali). The country only impresses her when she's visiting. I was born & raised in NYC. Give me the city life. I've lived in country settings & can appreciate the lifestyle. But I need some noise & people around me....walking, bike riding, police & fire sirens, street corner singers, vendors, etc etc. Fellas it's important to tell your lady about WHERE & HOW you live. The right lady will look at your heart first, before being concerned about your pocket.

Peace....

Congrats, Buck! My wife is from Lima and loves it here in the country. We have a 3-acre lot, all woods, can't see any other houses from ours when the leaves are on the trees. Now we drive by new subdivisions and she says, "Oh Baby, the houses are very near to each other", lol.

Buck,

Back home, I live in a town of only 45,000 people.  If she's the women, for you, it won't matter.  You'll be making too much love for her to even recognize the size of your town(laughing)...CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Peace...

Buck,
Good luck with your novia's transition. My wife and her friends from Cali, population 2 million +/-,are not impressed at all with rural areas and small towns. They are used to the activity of a bustling city.Even our larger cities are boring by comparison because people really don't spend as much time on the streets, more in their car.
I took my wife to my hometown in Idaho last year, population 10,000+/-.Some of the people have built big houses on multi acre parcels of land outside of town.Kind of a house on a hill in the middle of nowhere. My wife was not impressed.Even Boise the largest city with 200,000 left her unimpressed.
She likes where we live,San Jose,California(population 1 million, but the county is 2,500,000).We visit San Francisco, which she likes, but she says she wouldn't want to live there, too many buildings, not enough open space. The girls who work in the Colombian counsolate in San Francisco were telling my wife she was lucky to live in San Jose instead of San Francisco.
One of my friends wives said she missed the music that you can hear playing at night in Cali.I sure don't.Or the traffic noise.Or the street venders hawking their wares at 8.00AM.One guy had a bicycle horn he would blow, then yell out his offering.Try that in a US city at 8.00AM and you will find yourself in jail. This was when I was trying to sleep in after the city noises keeping me awake untill 2.00AM.

I know what you mean about the noise.I think it is an obligation to use your horn constantly in Lima.It never quits. But I was exhilirated by Lima.It was the most alive place I had ever been.I hope mi novia will like it here.We will definitly be staying here for a year as the university has a good English as a Second Language course. Thanks for all your good thoughts.Buck
