... in response to "Barranquilla Beauties" tour, posted by Ross2 on Mar 6, 2002

Here is Ross's post from yesterday on Gringotalk.

Note the phraseology and teminology used compared to other people's trip reports, then you decide for yourself, shill or not a shill.

As I was saying, I just returned from the "Barranquilla Beauties" tour which
was great. There were more than 700 women
between Friday and Saturday and only about
40 men. TLC can never match that! We were totally overwhelmed. Many of the women were beautiful and college educated. If you can't meet a desirable women here, you might as well give it up.
I have been to numerous agencies in Cali including a TLC tour to Bogota. I can honestly say that Sam Smith, the owner of BQ
Beauties, out did them all in every category. He is a professional
and truly cares about his clients and the ladies. He met his wife Sandra on a TLC tour
years ago, so he understands what we are going through. Bruce White, the owner of TLC, doesn't even attend most of his tours.
Sam had more than enough translators, unlike many other agencies. Sandra knows many of the ladies, being from BQ and can therefore screen many of the bad ones. Sam and Sandra stayed with us for one week to help us, and wanted us to stay in touch and email them photos. The other agencies never do that!

Friends, we need to use our common sense when choosing an agency in Colombia and look at the facts. And the fact is, the ladies are flocking to Sam Smith's parties much more than TLC's, and this isn't by accident.
He is doing something that they aren't.
TLC knows this and deliberately scheduled their next Barranquilla tour on the exact same weekend as Sam's tour in an attemt to cripple his business. That just tells you about the nature of TLC.

Please let me know if you want to know more, because I can go on and on about this tour.
I may even return because there were so many ladies that I never had a chance to meet because I was so overwhelmed.

Sincerely,
Ross

Oh God! Gag me with a spoon!!! What's more those numbers, 40 men, 700 women between two nights are exactly the numbers at the TLC deal I went to.

Was your TLC tour at Barranquilla? I called TLC myself recently and they told me that they typically have 400 ladies total at their Barranquilla tours. TLC has a good turnout at Cali, typically over 700, but not nearly as many in Barranquilla, at least not recently.  The TLC tour I went to in Bogota had no more than 500 ladies.

Yes it was in Barranquilla. So the big question is: what did you come away with besides an urge to heap praise on Sam Smith?

Cali vet,

I just called TLC and they told me that they typically have about 400 ladies at their Baranquilla tours. Yet you tell me they had over 700 when you went? Something isn't right
here. Don't you think they would be happy to admit their huge turnout if it were true?

If you want to know more about why I have good things to say about the Barranquilla Beauties tour, read my recent post at the two gringos website.

I went to the "gringos" site to read your post but wasn't allowed access to the forum without buying a book. I'll just read what you care to post on this forum. Don't need a book.

Just wondering if it seems obvious to you as well as everyone else reading.  IF you have time to call a competing agency to quibble over the numbers (400vs700), you 1) Have time to read the posts of which MANY, MANY are asking for more information and discussion  and 2) Would have time to post some meaninful and insightful response based on the transendent experience that you claim to have just had and recommend to everyone and their dog.  BTW, what's the word for shill in Spanish?  I couldn't find it in my Portuguese dictionary.

Well... 1. He called collect.
and    2. "shill", that was a tough one. I had to consult  two dictionaries but the answer comes up: "complice". Does that come close in Portuguese?

I find "cumplice" with an accent mark over the u.  It's listed under "accomplice" on the English to Portuguese side.  Maybe "shill" is slang.

In any case, it's too bad someone doesn't make a reputable discussion about the benefits of the big party method of introductions.  It seems like with the diversity of people in the process, it would be a good fit for someone.

You're right it could be an interesting discussion. I would think a few guys have tried a TLC tour at some point but no one seems inspired to talk about it my self included since I didn't find it worthwhile. Gotta comment on the hutzpah of the organizers though. Late in the afternoon before the first "event" they hold an "informational" meeting telling you how many phone numbers you should collect per hour etc. etc. But most of the meeting was devoted to a pitch by a local orphanage that TLC invited to the meeting. I mean they even brought in children to go around sitting on guys laps. Then the TLC rep. urged everyone to dig deep into his pockets and give generously. I was stunned by the transparency of his efforts to ingratiate his company with the "host" city. And of course all at the guys expense, not TLC's, after already having paid the big bucks for the tour, airfare and hotel. Later during the first event they announced the tally to applause all around. The idea being I guess that not only is a gringo a good catch on general principal but we also open our wallets at the least provocation and are an inherently generous bunch. I thought maybe after raking in more than $40,000 for setting up three parties THEY TLC could shell out to grease their own welcome mat. I was told later that this stratagy was initiated after they got run out of Caracas on a rail. Maybe someone else knows the details. Anyway if they ever go bust that rep. could probobly make out great throwing his pitches like the others that climb on public buses in most Colombian cities.

What a shill, that exact same post was made by you a week ago on Gringotalk, with no follow up.  Ross must be the tour owner.

A long follow up was posted on Gringotalk before you posted this message. And no, I am not the owner.

Respectfully,

Ross,

Just in case people are interested in getting more information, why don't you post it here?  There are achives here and so if you just say it was great go read what I said on GringoTalk, it might not help people using the search on this message board.

Also, since you're saying somthing to the effect that if you can't meet someone on Company XYZ's meet market style tour, you should give up, can you give some more information on what was important to you and how this specific method worked well for you?  It seems to me that the huge disparity in numbers would make it difficult to get to know people on any meaningful level.  Also since the competition offers exactly the same kind of tour, what's the advantage this particular less well known company?  What about the price difference?  How were the facilities for the party? hotel for people to stay at?  General impressions of the success of people?  Have you attended a tour with the other company?

I'd be curious too your perception of how many of the men that went on the tour with you that you thought were prepared and serious about meeting a spouse, compared to men that needed to resolve their own issues and also men that went on a tour that were only there to play.

Can you give more information about your fiancee and yourself?

Also, just fyi, in your profile you request that people email you for more information or with questions, but when I looked your email address was not provided.

Take care!
