Looks like Colombia is actually going in after the rebels today.Maybe this hijacking incident with the senator was their 9/11 type wake up call.Ironically the senator was the head of some peace commission.Maybe he is a little smarter today also.
Pastrana has been so weak in dealing with the rebels its hard to believe he is actually going to do something.Maybe he has finally figured out that his approach was useless. There seems to be strong support for a new president that will take on this issue.
Pastrana said something yesterday like"the rebels have shown their hand, they want useless violence".Duh,wheres he been for the last 30 years.
I still can't believe Pastrana will follow through with anything here.Maybe this is just a jesture and then he will back off again.
Its just amazing to me that Colombia will stand by while a small group of people causes so much trouble for the country.Maybe 50,000 rebels max in a country of 40,000,000?They could easily get rid of them, all they need is the will and the guts, severly lacking in Pastrana to this point.I bet those 50,000 numbers will drop real fast if they ever thought the government was actually going to take them on.

Everything i've read indicates their strength is less than 20,000. All the more reason to end the charade of "peace" talks.
