I actually have zero line-ups but am going to work on it now through may 22nd. (I'm leaving 5/23 coming back 6/3)
That way I'll get 2 weekends out of the deal. I have some numbers and addresses to get me started.
Next step is finding a hotel in a good location. I'm looking into Hotel Debret, and Arpoador Inn (Rua Francisco Otaviano) These are close to beaches, action and are under $60/night (I have some e-mails out to them requesting a discount for an 11 night stay. Doesn't hurt to ask.)
Gotta get crackin on those letters...Peace

Everyone tells me it is more dangerous than Sao Paulo.

Don't wear good watches there. Don't wear expensive suglasses...etc etc.

There is a website:

BlameitOnRio.com that has some travel links (Lousy, movie, btw...don't bother renting it...)

Other links:

Survival Portuguese phrases:

http://www.limiar.org/portuguese/

There are some others... I can't remember right now...

... in response to One thing about Rio, posted by MarkInTx on Feb 23, 2002

I've been to Rio twice recently and it is very safe. I've been able to walk around the city at all times of night without worry.

BTW, I stayed at the Arpoador Inn. The rooms were decent and the location is very convenient. It is a good bargain.

You will love Rio. It is in my estimation the most beautifully situated city in the world and I've been most places.

If you have any questions, email me. I would love to find a woman in Rio, so if you have any rejects, send their addresses my way.

Thanks,
Marc
