If you read Spanish and want to see what Colombians are saying about the latest airliner kidnapping go to "foros" at www.caracol.com.co. When I visited the site there were already 261 posts. Of course it's important to keep in mind the audience of this site: mostly upper middle class with computer in home or office or Colombians living in U.S.

Whats he going to do,cut off their cerveza shipments? If Pastrana was ever to actually do anything everybody would be very surprised, particularly the FARC.How do you negotiate anything with them if you never ever do anything
regardless of what they do?Talk about the whimp of the Andes. But he did set a short time period, maybe he is serious this time?Naaa. But then his role model in gutlessness,Jimmy Carter, did approve that aborted attempt to rescue the hostages in Iran.
My prediction. If they do do anything they will screw it up.

Just got off the phone with my Novia in Cali. The troops are moving into the DMZ. What great timing. I am due to arrive there tomorrow night. At least Cali is not that close to whatever major action will be going down over the next few days and weeks. I had planned to be out of Colombia before 7 April when all of this was scheduled to begin. Murphey's Law sucked the big one this time. This American will be keeping a low profile for awhile.

I was in Bogota during those bombings recently when they tried to contaminate the water, tried to blow up the electrical station and killed those people in front of the restaraunt.  They were trying something daily...

It's all part of the Colombian dating experience, a little danger, alot of excitement.  During the 2 months I was there, I just got used to it all, and didn't even think about it.  It is a sad situation over there, and  I just can't  understand how they can sit down at the negotiation table with these nuts.  Every night in Bogota on the TV, I saw film of negotiations, and at the same time, people were dying.

My wife says it's all mui complicado, and I don't understand it all really.

What a strange country we live in that normal guys feel they need to travel to dangerous countries to find a good women.  It's all pretty bazarr....
