This is a serious question. How can I go face those beautiful women in Columbia when my country is down there spraying countryside with agent orange style defoliant and proping up the corrupt government, all in the name of oil? I love the USA, but I'm ashamed of this sh!t.

We have to stay united or we all fail.  Since you don't read much, rent that Rocky movie where the russian gets beat-up.

The Russian Board is troll infested right now. Someone there mentioned how calm it is on the Latin and Asian boards so look for the TROLLS to come over to these boards soon.

The russian board seems to be about 30% troll posts...

30% he said / he said b!tch-fests

and 30% useful information...

That's one of the reasons I am hanging out south of the border these days...

If thats the way you feel you should take a trip to Cuba. You will like it there.Notice the happy people and prosperity.
Actually I don't condone spraying Colombia with chemicals, and I could care less about the war on drugs and drug production except for the negative effect it is having on Colombia. But corrupt government?I could buy weak in the case of the current regeme. And oil?How much oil do we get from Colombia?
I think we should give all the help that is needed to Colombia to get rid of the rebels. If that happens to take out drug production it will just move somewhere else anyway.
Do we want another Cuba here?Is that what we want for our Colombian neighbors?Actually no way can these rebels win,but unless the government takes them on they will  continue to be a problem and hurt the country forever.
Colobians are very nice people. They deserve our help. Its a responsibility that comes with the power we are so fortunate to have.

The United States puts an embargo on Cuba, something that really ONLY hurts the Cuban people but yet we trade with China and have our president visiting their country as we speak.

Cubans are very nice people too and they are happy, as happy as they can be under the circumstance in which they live.

I was amazed at the energy of the island, the energy of the pople when I visited there.

Juan,
I agree we should get rid of the Cuban embargo. The main reason is it hurts the Cuban people. Also very immportant though,is it gives Castro an excuse for the miserable failure of his system. Not only did Cubans lose their freedom, they get an economy that is in the toilet big time. Thanks to a dinosaur that is still fighting battles that no longer exist. Also the more exposure Cuba gets to a free open economic system the faster they will change, but change isn't likely untill Castro is gone.He has shown absolutely no comprehension of the huge changes in the world.Communism is dead and dying. It doesn't work. Not only is it totalitarianism, government run economies don't have a prayer of keeping up with economic changes.
I think the main reason we still have the embargo is the Cubans in the US.They want no less than Castro out and are willing to hurt their countrymen to achieve that. Also I think some people think if Castro is overthrown they will still get their stolen property back.Oppose these Cubans and write off Florida, who decided who is president last time.
About China, yes they have been repressive and still are,but they are changing fast.I watched Bush's speech last night. He really lectured to them, not knocking their system but selling ours.China will be a far different place by the 2006 olympics. And they will be a huge economic power, our only possible rival. We need to work with them, not against them.I have no doubt China will evolve to a capitalistic system, probably being mostly there in 10 years.
Cuba,on the other hand is not changing(the government at least). There is one old fool that is going to have to go to that proletariat utopia in the sky before that will happen.
But that will probably hasppen in the next 10 years also.

Cuba can trade with anyone they want except the U.S. The real problem is that socialism is immoral and economically ruinous, and that they have a murderous thug holding them hostage, although that doesnīt stop ignorant entertainers and politicians from going over and polishing his jackboots with their neckties.

As for China, I sure hope Bush has something up his sleeve long term, after we rewarded the butchers of Tiananmen Square with MFN status and failed to oppose their bid for the Olympics. He probably does; itīs going to be tricky dislodging Saddam and making way for democracy in Iraq and Iran, but sooner or later the smell of freedom will be too tempting for the Chinese to resist.

The cities of Colombia operate with your "imoral and economiclly ruinous" socialist system. There are six economic "estrata" or "extracto" and charges for electric phone etc. are staggered accordingly.

Welcome c(a)jones

From your knees payaso. Your first post here and you decide to pull the tigers tail. You are way off subject. Please just go online with one of the other groups dedicated to the same old whines. No one really wants to debate your worn out ideas with you. You obviously have no knowledge about what is happening in Colombia or you are another frustrated old troll looking for a way to express your self because no one (that knows you!!) will talk to you..You apparently haven't even been there. Your name choice and style do seem familiar though.

PS Double Entandres are difficult but I think you understand

Maybe you should follow the American Taliban fighter's example. Sorry to be cynical but it is a mess in Colombia to be sure. But the guerillas have long since dropped their war of ideaolgy and have become war lord types prospering in drug trading and killing innocent peasants. They could care less about the country itself.

You have nothing to be ashamed of by being an American going there. The Whimp President, Pastrana, has spoiled the guerillas with his naive attitude. While our policy is never perfect, it is an impossible situation in which to find a perfect policy. The world does not need another Cuba.

It is very easy, follow these steps, Trade in your gas guzzling SUV for a bike or a 4 cylinder. Then get rid of that "corrupt" government there and let the FARC, ELN or AUC take over the country. Then they can kill 40,000 more innocent people. In fact go find the rebels, tell them you agree with them and go fight that corrupt government. You should notice that the majority (above 95%)of Colombians want the U.S there and the rebels out. Some farmers are pissed about the spraying, yet they are getting compensated for the land and lost production, also they are being subsizidized to grow other crops than coca. If you never been there, you may want to keep you mouth running about another subject other than the rebels, etc...Go enjoy the girls and leave the rest alone. It could be a painful lesson for you down there for you if you talk about those things, you never know who is who......
