Reading JunFan's and others posts I have been interested in visiting Barranquilla.  The sites selling addresses for this area seems to have been last updated about the time Noah left the ark.  AFA has not updated their Colombian section in a very long time.  I was complaining about this and someone told me of a new agency opening up there.  Today I called the owner.  He lives in Florida and he travels to Barranquilla on business every month.  His girlfriend lives in Barranquilla.  I was very impressed with our conversation.

He plans to open for business the last of Feb or first of March.  I am going to go and I will write a trip report when I return.  He described the house with every room having an ocean view and a large waterfall in the living room as you walk in the door.  A very large swimming pool, a bathroom in every bedroom, etc.  I am not trying to advertise, but just make people aware that this place is opening for business.  I didn't think to ask when he planned to have his website up.  His girlfriend is signing girls up now.  The house is 30 minutes from Barranquilla and he has hired a guy to run a shuttle every hour, to bring the girls in for parties amd appointments as well as take the guest to town.  Oh and the best part for me is that he is located close to a big TexMex resturant!

I am going to go there for a week and then to Cali for a week as soon as he opens.

Why ignore classycolombianladies? Bob Frank and his wife Maria Del Carmen run a very nice albeit small agency out of their apartment. They may not have many (who does in B/quilla?) but they have some very pretty girls. Those guys on their way down there should review their site. Another is Ilovelatins also called barranquillabeauties. They used to have an office on 49th but I'm told they moved the office. Anyone know where it is?

When I first started thinking of going to Barranquilla I looked at all the websites of the agencies and address sellers that do business there.  I had heard a couple of comments that made me decide against Sam&Sandra.  I know the website is only the marketing piece of this, but when a website sets unchanged forever I get the impression the place is stagnat.  Wether right or wrong it is the perception I am left with.  I have since heard very good things about Bob Franks place.  Gary Cantor is the guy starting up this new place.  I have spoken with him a couple of times on the phone.  He has some good ideas I think and he is has a lot of energy regarding doing this right.  Also I like the idea of the initial meeting with a girl being at an agency (Bed and Breakfast style) so if she is a noshow or 90 minutes late, I am not sitting somewhere like a knot on a log.

I am just hoping that Junfan did not get the only beautiful girl there.

There have been some trip reports from BQ on 2Gringos lately that give all the details of the BQ agency scene, I won't plagiarize...let's just say the guy would rather use Bob Frank and Gunter Kook.  Gunter is apparently to be used only on an 'pay as he produces' basis, while Frank's deal gets good reviews...Sam's deal did not get good reviews...I'll leave it at that.  But to answer your question, ILoveLatins is operating out of Sandra's appt. now I think.

AFA is getting good reviews in Cartagena, which has always seemed to be the case.

I'll be in B/quilla in a couple of weeks for Carnaval and wouldn't mind seeing what's up with Ilovelatins. Happen to know the address/phone of Sandra's apto.?

When I was there about a year ago a friend of mine and I dwelt directly with Angel, Sandra's younger brother and we were able to pay him per date. Worked out pretty well.

TexRob,

As most gringos who travel to BAQ know, there is already enough potential isolation from staying IN Barranquilla...it's not exactly the excitement Mecca. -And this guy is setting up an agency 30 minutes outside of Barranquilla? Interesting.

Every room has an ocean view? -If it is outside of Barranquilla 30 minutes to the south(on the way to Cartagena), which would be the most appealing, I have an idea where it would be.

I'm not sure if you've ever been to Barranquilla, but I would suggest that you make your reservations to stay in the city, then take a ride out to see his place and determine if you really want to be that far out in the "boonies". -The outskirts of Barranquilla will register pretty high on most gringo BOON-o-meters...unless you live in Kansas. Wink

Also, Barranquilleras are more on the conservative side, so rest assured that MOST will be VERY picky on who they'll be willing to ride out to the boonies to meet...at an agency no less. -Even for parties, which typically end at like 11pm or 12 midnight...the ladies will weigh the pro: MAYBE meeting a gringo, against the con: being a woman caught out in the boonies late at night.

I'm not trying to bash the guy before he even gets his thing off the ground...but the concept seems like a bit of a stretch to me, given the demographic and location. But hey, that just one measley opinion.

I will most definitely be curious to read your trip report.

Good luck.

Tai

ps - Te digo que me encantan las costeņas de Barranquilla y Cartagena.

I tend to agree with you, Tai.  I have travelled that area many times.  There are alot of these 'country club' deals for the rich as you leave BQ, and there are public beaches (I use that term VERY liberally) about 20-30 miles outside BQ towards Cartagena.  So, people are used to going out that direction, and the road is considered safe, with alot of Army patrols and a couple of checkpoints. Most of the land around there are little 'fincas' (ranches).

I would think that alot of girls would be reluctant to go all the way out there, especially with a driver that they don't know.  I know I wouldn't get in a car for a 'ride to the country'.

But hey, maybe this guy will be able to make the girls comfortable with it.  More power to him, BQ definately is an 'under-mined' city, with lots of potential.

I'm with Tai and JunFan, as someone who has been there, I would be careful about basing my trip on those connections until you've checked it out. May be all as he said, but I would be wary.

Mike do you know where a 300 year old castle is located that has been renovated and turned into a bar and resturant?  I remember the guy telling me that the house is close to that.  I am going to try calling him back this weekend and get more information.

I know that he setup an office in town and hired a professional photographer to take pictures of the girls and he had a lot of T-shirts printed up for the girls with his logo on it.  I know he registered the domain Mychicas.com, but I don't know when it will be up.  Sounds like he is planning a big kick off.

You guys might be right since I have never been there, I have no idea.  He promised to e-mail me some photos of the house and area when he gets them back.  I was under the impression when I talked to him that the girls they had signed up were very excited about this.

I told him I wanted to meet a 21 year old nymphomaniac who was into tying her own trout flies.  He didn't promise me anything but said he'd keep an eye open.

Shakira comes from Barranquilla, as well as your wife, Mike.  Those are two good recommendations!!!
