I'm the owner of Mexican Matchmakers in Guadalajara, Mexico. I read the board occasionally so I can see who is bad mouthing me. That way I know who not to send Christmas cards to.
A while back you all had a discussion about Mexicans obtaining tourist visas and hoe difficult/easy it is to obtain one and I hope to clear up a few misconceptions.
What a Mexican citizen has to do to obtain a tourist visa is to convince the officer doing the interview is that they are coming back. Altough there are no legal requiremnts in regard to income ect. The consulates rule of thumb is that an applicant earn at least $5000 pesos ($500USD) per month. (2 of my 3 employees earn more than $5000 pesos per month.) They want to see stability in regard to employment. If the applicant is someone that changes jobs frequently they will likely be turned down. They also want to see that the applicant has strong family ties in Mexico. In other words if most of the applicants immmediate family lives in the US they will likely be turned down. If the applicant owns a car or real estate that is a plus.
Most middle and upper middle class Mexicans can get a tourist visa. To give you an idea of the degree of difficulty that a woman here encounters in meeting those requirements. 46%of the women members in my agency have tourist visas. Another 19% do not have a current visa, but have had one in the past. If they have had one in the past, renewal is not automatic, but about an 80% chance.
Other,
It currently takes 4 weeks to get an interview. Once the visa has been issued it is good for 10 years.
If anyone would like further information in regard to this the phone number for the consulate in Guadalajara is 011-52-333-825-2998. Expect to be on hold for a while.
I hope that this has been informative.
Sincerely,
Terry Graham
