Aaron,
You gave ma alot of imformation I was not aware of about the history of slavery and the psychological impact, but I think the bottom line is you are exactly right,an attitude of despair and limitation has been created that some people are still limited by.I think other behavior has been added by the people themselves that creates negative thinking.Like some of the rap music.I'm sitting at a stop light and some guy has this(music???) blaring, saying something like "I shot that Mother f----r".Not only is it objectionable but poisionous to your thinking. To a large extent you become what you think about. Then there the huge number of kids without fathers present.I have heard stories of some guys trying to see how many women they can get pregnant. This gets complicated by a welfare system that rewards rhe woman, gives her money so she can have her own appartment and independence(of a sort)when she has children.I agree the children are not at fault and need to be cared for,but do we want to reward the mother? Its a vicious cycle.
I saw a couple of things on TV that really reinforced my thinking here. There was a congressional hearing on TV one time.I remember it was chaired by Rep. Henry Gonzalez of Texas. They had a young white girl testifying.(this is not only a black issue).I thought they probably picked her because she was not stereotypical. She was about 18 with one child as was talking sbout how the money she recieved was barely enough to afford an appartment where she lived,Conneticut I believe.I am thinking we are probably hearing rates for upscale appartment here. But amazinglingly what came out was that she was pregnant again with twins. It just sort of countered the whole point they were trying to make about the amount of the welfare payment.I have read stories where woman had said they were going to have more children to be able to collect more money. This is not only unfair to those of us who have to pay for it,but what about the kids? What sort of life and what sort of examples are they getting from the one parent who sticks around?
I saw another interview with a young Black woman, early 20's,very intelligent, who had a couple of children. She was saying that the only job she could get was flipping burgers and that didn't cut it,so society should pay for her to go to school. She wanted to get a doctorate. My first though was at least this woman has some ambition. My second thought was hold it,because she can't support herself other taxpayers, some of whom are flipping burgers and cleaning houses and other jobs that are no fun, should pay for her to study for years. My other thought was she might spend all this time studying in one of our "politically correct" institutions and come out thinking what a unfair capitalistic system we have.
Of course the other huge factor is drugs.I am a libertarian at heart.I think if a person wants to take drugs and is commiting no other crime he shouldn't be bothered by the government.I think drugs should be legalized, but I am affraid it might create even more problems. At least we would get young black kids out of the drug business, where they are killing each other.Plus there are a million young black men in prison, mostly on drug related charges. What a waste.
OK,as we diverge, yes Jimmy may have been right, but he should have kept his mouth shut.I remember some reporter was interviewing him,he was sitting at a table in a restaurant, probably had a couple of drinks and shared his thoughts. He got fired the same day.I was a little surprised. He wasn't saying people were inferior,he was saying they were superior.Maybe all racial discussion was off limits or maybe it was the reference to slavery.I have had this belief about athletic superiority for along time, just from observation.I would look at documentaries from Africa and the people didn't have the muscular builds.I thought maybe it was poor diet. But a recent heavyweight boxer, who came directly from Africa pushed me back to thinking it was inate. His name is Ike Ibeabuchi,he is undefeated, like 26-0,mostly knock outs.He is big fast strong and seems to have incredible indurance(this has been a problem amoung big strong guys, but not him).He knocked out Chris Byrd and beat David Tua,both undefeated.I thought this guy will be the next heavyweight champion.Unfortunately he got in a real dumb scrape in Las Vegas and may spend most of his life in jail.He hired a stripper to come up to his room, maybe thinking he was getting a prostitute, and when she wouldn't put out he either raped her or attempted to.Maybe he just didn't offer enough money for the services desired.I don't belive in rape, but when a woman comes to your room and strips for you,its got to be big extenuating circumstances. One of the fight promoters spent a little money on an attorney, then gave up on him.I read about a week ago he has a public defender and was going to do a plea bargain that would get him 30 years. What? For raping a stripper? You do a plea bargain to get a reasonable sentence. What a waste.I particularly hate to see huge potential lost, but then maybe beating the s--t out of people is not your highest character reference,as in Mike T.
Of course this physical difference may not be so for all black men,but even if it was a small percentage it could explain dominance in sports. When you get to the top you are dealing with the elite of the elite.
Austrailia? That should be interesting. You may meet someone there in 2 years and never get back in the latina market. There are some pretty women there, but I am more attracted to the darker skinned latinas, and I think they age better. My cousin lived in Austrailia for awhile. He said when you immigrate to the country the goverment gives you a class in all the natural critters to watch out for(not talking women here). He said everything they have there will kill you.(spiders,reptiles).So particularly if you wind up anywhere in the outback make sure you get informed.
When are you going?Keep us informed.

Pete

I'm keeping this....

With this progress, we can begin to unlearn what we have learned, and teach the truth that we are all equal and from the same family.

Peace....Hoda

Ya'll

Basically, racism is a mental illness. It prevents people from preceiving the truth about themselves and others.

All people are in my family. We all need each other if we are going to make the world a better place.

We're all from the motherland!!!!!!!!!!!! =0)

Amen

Vibe, I am a 33 year old black man who has visted Cali three times since August 2000. Personally, I have never thought my skin was an issue there. Many of the ladies that I met there were nice, humorous, educated, and appreciative. In fact, I'm returning there next Friday (for eight days). I've met other men of color down there (also looking for that special woman). Personally, I feel as though my prospects for finding a mate are much better in Cali, than in Barranquilla. Check it out, Dun. You may like what you see. PEACE.

I don't know about Cali being THE place to go but an otherwise  good guy, black, white, purple or green will not have much problem meeting ladies who are definitely interested and available.  The trick however is not finding the women but rather seperating those of good character from those of questionable character.  This is not always easy and requires both time, practice and maybe a bit of luck.

There are many African American men who post here. They have gone to Colombia (Bogota, Cali, etc) and had success. I am sure they are going to answer your question.

Vibe, I will be making my first trip in a couple of weeks, but I am planning another trip in Feburary and one of the guys going with me is black.  He has been talking to a girl there on e-mail for quite some time.  Also I think there are other black guys on this board who have been there.
