Author Topic: Signs of INS- FBI Co-operation?  (Read 2367 times)

My wife, who is currently going through the adjustment of status process, received a letter today from the INS district office in Memphis saying she needed to appear at our local INS office later this month for fingerprinting. The letter said these fingerprints would be sent to the FBI. I believe that this requirement is something new, I don't recall any mention of a "fingerprint" appointment at this stage of the process by our immigration attorney.

She was previously fingerprinted at her appointment to get her work auth. card, but this letter seems to be unrelated to that. I suppose sharing of the fingerprint between govt. agencies would be too difficult a trick for them, LOL, so the FBI needs their own set. I'm guessing this may be a result of some changes since Sept. 11. Anyone else received this letter??

After having worked for the federal government for over 20 years for three different agencies - there is an old saying about Uncle Sam:  "The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing."

Another thing about the federal government is that there is not much in the way of cooperation or information sharing among the agencies.  Hence, your wife is getting finger-printed by every agency she is having to do business with.

You would think that there is some kind of central finger-print data base in the federal government, shared by all federal agencies.  Apparently, there isn't.

I got finger-printed when I joined the Army.  I got finger-printed each time when I went to work for two other federal agencies.

Yeah, It doesn't surprise me that govt. agencies don't transfer much info between each other, I think that is why so many illegal aliens can work using a fake SS number, but also pay income taxes using the same fake number and never get caught.

I'm almost sure that a set of fingerprints for the FBI is something new to the adjustment of status process.
