I have lived in Costa Rica, in a barrio called "barrio de las americas", located in Moravia, a suburb just outside of San Jose.  Also I have traveled extensively across all parts of Costa Rica.

Ticas are good for one thing only--sex.  They are unfaithful, materialistic, and happy in Costa Rica.  Not many of them want to leave Costa Rica and live in the US.

On the other hand, my experiences in Colombia were just the opposite.  There are a few game players in Colombia, but most really are searching for a better life.

I had a Tica pen pal last year.  We got to know each other via mail and phone and then when I told her that I am very thrifty and that I do not live in a big house or drive a fancy car, she quickly dumped me and suggested that I need therapy.

Your analysis of the character of Ticas confirms my observations.

Buck,
There is an english newspaper in San Jose ,Costa Rica called the Tico Times.I think you can find it on the internet.I subscribed for 3 months to check out Costa Rica a little.You will see adds by American and Canadian men seeking women,and an occasional one by a Tica seeking a gringo.
I think the agency scene is not well established there at all.Latin Life Mates was going to open an office there and didn't I heard because there wasn't too much interest from the ladies.
Some guys have reported success there in the past.I think you have to go it alone alot more so spanish is probably much more necessary.A solution might be to hire a translater
who is willing to go out with you to meet women.
I liked the idea of the safety of Costa Rica,but prices are closer to US prices than other latin countries and once I started investigating the agencies it seemed like most of the availiable women were in Colombia.It also seemed like almost every very pretty woman was from Colombia or Venizuela(Also not developed).

Pete E on your very last point, Venezuela, Maria Del Carmen of classycolombianladies in Barranquilla was in the process last year of developing a sister agency in Caracas with a relaative of hers. Don't know how far along it is.
