Well I am traveling to Cartagena in two weeks.  I
was wondering if there are others out there that
will be going as well around that time.  I am
currently a little upset with the agency I am
using but I will make the best of it.  I will let
you all know how things went with a trip report
when I get back.

Elessar, I'm going to be in Barranquilla next week. There are a couple of agencies there. What agency are you using and why upset?

You might want to email me off line...don't know how well you know BQ, but maybe we could send some of your pics down there and see if any of my wife's friends relatives would like to meet you for dinner...Mike

Very nice of you to offer Mike. As it happens I'll be spending most of my time camping on the beach with a B/quilla girl at Parque Tayrona, other side of Santa Marta. Would like a raincheck.

I am using A Foreign Affair.  My parents have a time share
and were allowing me to use it so I did not have to pay for
their whole tour because I had transportation and lodging.
I was told initially that I could just sign up for the
socials which would include all but the trans. and lodging.
Now that I have paid I am being told that all they will
provide is attendence to the socials and translations
services during the socials.  All other services will cost
me.  I am quite upset that I am not getting what I was told
I would get.

I am going to Cartagena in January. What are the charges are they asking you to pay for? Has anyone here used AFA as a walk up service? Prices? Is the agency any good? Ive been to Cali before but prefer the darker ladeis so I am going to give Cartagena a try. Overall are the ladies easy to meet in the Carribean region? Thanks for any input.

AFA seemed to be very good when I first started working with
them.  They were very helpful.  I recieved a number of
addresses and have been in contact with six ladies.  They
have various services all of which include an additional
charge unless you are going on the tour.  Their next tour
after Nov. is in May but you can use there services from
their office any time.  As far as meeting the ladies I still
have yet to go there but as said I have had good contact via
mail/e-mail so far.

I have not gone on the tour and will only be using the
socials, but the website says they book rooms at the
Almirante Hotel which is a 4 or 5 star hotel.  It also says
there are three large socials, tours of the city,
translators, access to the office and its translators,
access to phone numbers.  Now as I said I was told initially
that I would get all that except airfare and lodging for
$800 and now they say all I get is the Socials only.  The
Almirante's rooms are about $150 a night.

Sounds like they're staying pretty much in line with the TLC tour prices, $1000 for three partys. Out of what they offer there are three things that you need: the socials, the address list and the translation. As to touring the city you can do that with any of the girls you meet. To get some up to date reccomendations on very comfortable but MUCH cheaper hotels put out a query about modestly priced lodgings in Cartagena on the "thorntree" latin american branch of www.lonelyplanet.com. Trvelers from around the world share just that kind of information there.
