What happens to an individual who has a restraining order filed against them while they are awaiting a status adjustment and a work permit? This person also has been working under the table and not reporting taxes. They've been reported to the INS by an anonymous person.  Is this serious to the INS or will they overlook it?

Any insight will help. Thanks.

better get a GOOD lawyer!!!!!!. this is a lot diffrent than going over the 90 day limit on gettting married. the restraining order is no big deal, unless it is from the former spouse, but the working part "under the table", and it being reported is a big problem. i think you can forget the work permit!!!!!!! if it is proven that the person was working without a permit, the INS will take that seriously. more info is needed to give beter advice, but if i was this person, i would look into a GOOD lawyer.

Well actually I am the one seeking a restraining order against the woman in question. As far as the INS is concerned I'm not sure what they will do about her working as a topless dancer and not reporting income.
The odd thing about this situation is that she has lived here in Los Angeles for 20+ years and never took care of her status change. She only applied for a change in staus in August of this year.
Am I correct in understanding that a person must have a work permit and pay taxes, not to mention staying out of trouble, in order to stay her?
