... in response to How to start?, posted by Nidan on Sep 11, 2001The key is to put in the effort, which is generally far beyond what a newbie thinks it will be. Be prepared for a lot of expenses, and perhaps years of effort. Above all, be patient. Those in a great hurry, whether it be men or women are those most prone to making mistakes. Take your time, be sure, and I would also look for ladies who aren't "in a hurry". There can be a lot of pressure to make a very important decision before you're ready. You may feel like you're competing with other men and the first man to pop the question wins, but in the long run, I think the people who use good common sense and are careful are the real winners. A bad marriage is worse than being alone and it's not just the men who are damaged when this happens.
Pick whatever is your prefered method and go from there would be my advice. If you haven't started studying Spanish yet, you should get going. I wouldn't let that stop you from beginning the search, but if you're really serious about marrying a Latin lady, you should prepare yourself.
Be realistic in who you pursue. It's not "mail order brides" and contrary to the opinion of many of the uninformed, the ladies are not anxiously waiting for the first gringo with a pulse to come rescue them. They do at least as much choosing as the men do. Some believe more.
