Has anyone here done any fishing while in Colombia?  I would like to do some fishing for peacock bass while there, provided it is in a safe region of the country.

If you venture away from town almost anywhere in Colombia you are fishing for an all expense paid camp out in the jungle while your hosts negotiate for everything you have.
Hell women aren't worth that let alone fish.

Hey TexRob I have to differ with Mike but I won't call him a puss. Get in touch with Rudi Vreeberg at: orchids@teletulua.com.co I'm sure he can turn you on to some safe fishing. He's been living in the mountain village of Trujillo, two hours north of Cali by minibus, for four years. Moved there to live with his woman. He spends most of his time hiking around the mountains there looking for new species of orchids and poison frogs. Anyway I got a hold of him over the net when he answered a call I put out on birdwatching in Cali. (Got to do something when half your dates at the agency don't show up.) He invited me to come up and stay at his house when I was in Cali in March. From Trujillo we went off on a three day tour hiking mountain trails into the eastern edge of Choco Province. We spent the nights at Naranjal (west of Trujillo) and checked with the police there before setting out. We saw great birds, orchids and howler monkeys but no frogs. And no guerilla. The only problem I had was getting into a romantic entanglement with a Trujillo girl that I don't want to carry through on but that's another story. So e-mail me or him if you want more info.

Thanks for the info guys.  I would love to make that hike with someone like him.  I am sure that was a very interesting trip.  Of course like JunFan says, I would not want to gamble my life either.  Since I have never been, I guess I will wait till I get there and go with gut feelings.

I met some guys who went to Venezuela fishing for Peacock bass and they had a great trip.  I was curious if that opportunity existed in Colombia as well.

you can shoot ducks in the south of chile! and the scenery is really something. cheap wine, good food, friendly people.

when i retire, i want to do summer in southern l.a., and summer again in the american west!

no winters to be found, and ladies dressed in their summer clothes, wherever i go!

of course, you do have to get used to christmas in the middle of a heat wave.

I thought about it, for about 10 seconds. While I'm sure it's a long shot, how would you like to be offshore and have a boatful of banditos pull along said and say 'nice boat, thanks...hope you are a good swimmer!'

If I want to fish, I go to Cabo or Costa Rica, not Colombia. Colombia is not the place to fish, hike, mountain bike, birdwatch, spelunking or whatever.

Call me a puss,
Mike
