My Free advice for what it's worth
If you want to learn a language the best way is total
immersion if you live where you have Galavision, Univision
or Telemundo start watching instead of Freinds and ER or
whatever you watch in english watch two or more telenovelas
noticias (news) in spanish as you watch the shows your brain
starts figuring out concepts what's going on in a month you
really pick up (plus the women are incredible) also listen only
to radio in spanish In dallas I'm fortunate to have a pop/rock
station in Spanish I love Thalia! (who doesn't), Paulina Rubio, Shakira believe me the latin pop artists are just as good as ours then use your friends that speak it to help pratice every chance you
get, translate it using altavista do something everyday to add to your vocabulary use every method and it comes faster than you think, and not boring this way like taking a high school class "te gustas los cines?" "Si me gusto los cines" or a computer cd or tapes.
Plus the tv gives you real latino interaction I would say Tv in
spanish is the best teacher.
best of luck

Diego

I have to disagree.  Spanish music is not just as good as ours.  It's better.  They are still using beautiful melodies in their music, something that has been largely abandoned here in the USA (this opinion relates to modern, popular music and not traditional or country styles).

As far as learning Spanish, you guys have it a lot easier now than when I learned.  Great Spanish computer programs are available for $50 or less now.  You can probably find a website and learn it for free.  I just went to www.yahoo.com and searched for "learn spanish".  http://www.studyspanish.com looks interesting, but check out some of the others, too.  As a sideline, my wife loves www.websters.com.  She can enter an English word and get a definition and listen to the word pronounced as well.

There's one comment I've not heard made on this issue and for me it's as important as any other.  My wife makes me laugh.  Not just a little.  She makes me laugh hard and often.  It's not jokes that's she's telling me, it's just the way she uses Spanish.  She's very playful and she knows how to charm people.  She's also practiced using cute little phrases that crack me up.  If I didn't understand Spanish I would be missing all of that.  Life with her is very rich.

Learn Spanish.  It puts you way ahead of the other gringos at the agency.

Do you please the theaters? Yes, me please the theaters. (hey, I couldn't resist). Yes, actually, that's a good idea, I've posted the same thing before. But now that "Betty" is finished, well, "Baby Sister" is such a trashy show. Xicha's good though, did you know it was orginally done in Portuguese and we are seeing it dubbed into Spanish? Looks like we have another Dallas guy here?

I watch it on and off. Still have a hard time picking up the lingo.
Funny. Now there is an AW character on the show. Compared to the Colombianas, she does nothing for me.
Hell, i even find Marta, the wife, attractive.

My Colombian wife turns on closed captions to watch TV programs in English.  La Baby Sister also has closed captions (at least on my cable system).  Although I am fluent in Spanish, it still helps me to see the closed captions.  They go very fast sometimes and they use a lot of colloquialisms in Colombia that are different than in other countries.

By the way, one of my wife's friends told her that she looks a little like Paola Rey, the Baby Sister herself.  How lucky am I?  The answer is "Very".

Yep from Dallas I much prefer Galavision and Univision to Telemundo but
still Telemundo can teach you alot even the commercials to really think
in spanish you have to hear it all the time.  On Galavision at 3:00am
(set you vcr) is CAMILA starring BIBI GAYTEN and wow can you say Amazon.com?  Also they have ROSALINDA with THALIA my pick for most bueatiful woman in the world (tommy's a lucky boy)
thanks for writing

Tommy Mottola and Tommy Lee.  You'd figure after losing their first wives they could only go downhill.

Come to think of it, you can add me to that list, too. :-)
