Anyone know what the correct city code to dial a cell number in Cali Columbia is?

To dial a house there I dial 011-572-XXXXXXX I thought the city code to dial a cell phone was different and was 573. But when I try and dial 011-573-XXXXXXXXX (Cell Number) it gives me a weird busy signal all the time.

When I am in Cali I simply dial 03358XXXXX and it is no problem?

Anyone know what I am doing wrong is?

Not sure why it works now and not yesterday.  Operator error on my part, although I did use a different phone card today than yesterday to dial it.

The phone card you are using to dial with is most likely at fault.  Quite a few phone cards will not allow a dial to an overseas cellular.

I have a cell phone in Cali and the gentleman gave you the correct format. It is 011-573-xxx-xxxx.

What message did you hear when you dialed 011-573-584-xxxx?  If it's not the right number or if the phone itself is turned off you should receive a message indicating so. It will be in Spanish though.

I get a constant busy signal no message. However, it is not the same busy signal you get if a phone is actually busy.

Only dial 011-573-XXX-XXXX, that is like a normal call except the 573 goes to any cell phone when you dial from outside the country. Then just dial the normal, 7 digit number.

Good luck.

DT,

I am sure that you dialed it correctly. Something else must be wrong. I dial cell phones in Colombia 3 to 4 times per month (in Cartagena and Barranquilla) and they always work.

BTW, I am originally from Pascagoula and lived in Dallas also !!!

This is one of those cell phones where you have to buy the cards. Do you think that makes a difference?

No, I actually have an old cell phone (Nokia 2160) which I took down to Barranquilla and Celcaribe acivated it for me, no problems. The card you get is like a U.S. long distance calling card, but works better. You buy the card, scratch off the code and then dial a special number and it "installs" to your number the amount of minutes you purchased. You throw the card away because you have the minutes on record with the cell phone company and they automatically keep track of them. You can buy new cards literally anywhere when you need more time.

I have called my cell phone from the U.S.(which I left for a friend to use) many times, dialing just as I suggested, and it has always worked. Perhaps your lady friend has no time left on her card and has not bought a new one. But remember, it does not cost anything to receive a call. They only charge when you make calls. So even if she has no calling time left, she can still receive calls for a period of time. After about 30 days of calling inactivity, the cell phone company cancells your service.
