Here`s another scam story for you guys. I was writing with what seemed to be a honest and sincere woman from Lima. We wrote back and forth for 2 months, shared many telephone conversations. Everything seemed okay to me. I know from the start she was divorced and she had said that she met a guy from England after the divorce and went to live with him. Things didn`t work out for them and she moved back to Lima. Then I met her and we started a realtionship. I notice one day her profile was gone from the web site and she told me she wanted to concentrate on me and see where things went. I was planning to go see her next month until.... I spoke with on the phone one night and she was kind of crying, after asking time and again what was wrong, she said she was married to this guy from England and that she had lied to me all along. I ended things on the spot. This is where it gets really good now... The next day I recieved an e-mail from a guy in California  saying he was her fiancee` and even sent a photo to prove it. Telling me how he bought her a expensive engagement ring and how he was going to help her get a quickie divorce in the DR. I got another e-mail from him saying that not only was there the 2 of us, but 2 -3 more guys from the USA and another in Lima she was jerking around. Now this guy says he intends to help her get a divorce and to work through her problems. You all know whats gong to happen next. How many of you would stick with a women like this ?? But he say he loves her...stupid fool !!
I have every intention of reporting her to the INS. I am a little ticked off, but I found out before it was to late. I`m thankful for that and will move on, get right back on the horse and try again. I really had no warning signs to alert me of her. Believe me, I did my homework. I looked for warning signs, there really were not any. So it goes to show just how clever a scammer can be, the trouble is they always get caught in the end. They will live this vicious cycle all their lives. It makes it very hard to trust someone again. Keep your eyes open !!!   Evan

I'm usually not the hard-liner but since your story evokes bad memories; "Been there, done that."  In my opinion report your evidence to INS.  You will save some fool's heart, time, and money. And allow him to meet a good one.  A thief is a thief, is a thief.  Her MO is clear.  Put her down!  Good luck.

I don't think there's really many actual scams going on.  When I was searching I encountered 1 woman in about 150 who was trying to pull a scam.  I dealt with 4 agencies and was not scammed.  There was one service which placed a personal ad in some Mexican newspapers that listed me as having blond hair and blue eyes (untrue), but that's the closest thing to agency scamming I ever saw.

Patrick,
This was not about an agency, it was a woman I met through American Singles. They have no control over who is honest ot not. It`s just a matter of some individuals being dishonest. Thankfully I found out in time, that`s all the counts in my book. As long as there are people meeting this way it will continue to happen. Evan

yea you are probably right , there are scams going on at agencies but they are probably not all that common. what i do see tho is a lot off agencies misleading the gringos  not out and out lies or scams. i see this taking place all the time, example: go to LL web site see the very attractive (three) ladies on the fromt page ? see the one in the right bottom corner? thats carolina she was married over a year ago to a gringo friend of mine and has been living in tampa bay area for a year now . they have emailed numerous times asking LL to remove her from their gallery. its still there...why?

Sounds like they simply don't want to redesign the graphics and aren't offering contact information for her.  I always overlay a text graphic on the woman's photo with "engaged" or "married" when they inform me, but sometimes they want their picture completely removed and I put a simple white background with the married or engaged text.  When you're dealing with animated gifs, which is what they have on the LL main page, they'd have to do a bit more work to get her photo off, so I can understand their reluctance, especially if they don't have the web design expertise in-house.  It would then cost them money to pay someone to redesign the rotating images.

What I don't like is the mis-leading messages at some sites.  Things like "the women outnumber the men X to 1" or "It's easier to teach a Latina English than it is to teach an American woman to be a good wife" etc.

i can see your point about the main page graphics the cost and time , however why dont they put as you said "married" across her photo in the gallery? they have been telling them for almost a year that they are married yet the photo remains in the gallery. i agree the statements that some of these agencies make as you atated x number girls to 1 man. first time i went to cali i was told by an agency owner that cali had 9 women to evry man yet when i did a little searching on the internet ( city populations/stats ) i found out that cali colombia is actually something like 51% women 49% men hardly 9 to 1 almost dead even.
