My wife, from Colombia, introduced a neighbor to her cousin.  He married her in Bogota on June 6.  I saw her get off the plane in the US last night with my wife returning from Colombia.  Let me do the math for you.  That's 12 days!

The new visa for wives is much faster than a K-1 visa for fiancees.  If you meet a woman in Colombia and you are sure that you want to marry her and you want to get her here as fast as possible, that looks like the way to go now.

Steve,
Yes spousal visa's are much quicker, but there is a minimum 14 day wait between when you first apply(after you are married)and the second appointment, the first day you can get the visa,so there must be some missing imformation here.
One of our guys here recently went through the process and it looked like he got the visa in a week. What happened was they had a qiuck civil ceremony when he first got there, went to Bogota to get the process started then went back to Cali for the big wedding with family,so it was over 14 days from the first ceremony and appointment.
Of course if she had a tourist visa she could come right in but I think that would be a mistake, she needs to show her spousal visa to immigration at airport customs, who start the process for her green card which she  gets in the mail in 6 weeks or so.
I was trying to think of another way to get around the 14 days but all I could come up with is someone at the Embassy would have to change the date on your application or overlook the 14 day waiting period.
If you find out anything else please post, its important for guys planning to go through the process.
Also some guys do the much more time consuming fiance visa(2-4 months)then just get married right away when they get here.Thats OK if time is not a problem. One guy I know who married in Colombia and then got divorced here said he wished he had married here, then he wouldn't need a Colombian divorce, which is harder to get.

I was at the airport talking to the husband last night.  He said he went to the Bogota embassy before the marriage and they told him about the waiting period.  Then they got married (I re-checked and the date was June 5).  They went back to the embassy June 6.  For some unexplained reason they gave them an interview date the next week.  He didn't ask.  I'm sure he didn't want to rock that boat.

At the interview she was missing her police report.  She brought it back the next day and they gave her the visa.  She could have travelled last week but she was waiting for my wife's return yesterday.  She could have left about 7 or 9 days after the marriage.  Incredible!  I don't think every case is so fast, but it's still much faster than a K-1.

You do make a very good point about trying to get a Colombian divorce.  With all the risks involved in marrying anyone, it is something worth thinking about.  Although I wonder if a Colombian marriage would be any concern here after a US divorce.  I'm no lawyer.  I decided to do something constructive with my life.

Golden,

Is there Direct Consular Filing in Peru as there is in Colombia?

I thought you guys were going to apply for the K-1 Visa?

I thought would be nice for her to e-mail you and ask you things since you both are Peruvian, and you have been here and through the visa process. I thought it might help her if she was able to talk to someone that took a similar path to the one she is about to take....and help prepare for what is like here compared to there. I know it takes time to get use to, is a big adjustment to make...didnt know if she e-mailed you very much though..i appreciate all your help, thank you....Golden

Not sure, she (my novia) is one who told me to hold off on K-1 i had paperwork ready to go and was about to send, she said talked to a friend of hers thats knows some people at an agencey so she went there and found out there couples are getting here faster by getting married there in Peru and filing. I e-mailed the agencey (dont have e-mail address now cause i lost alllll my e-mail other day..computer problems, but i can get from my novia) ....anyway they responded back mentioned about how the people here in usa illegaly were getting married and got to stay.....and i  advised back...Yessssss.. is true, BUT was special program going on here in USA, yet that deadline was over, and was only if the mate was here in the USA....she responded back about that something going on there right there in Peru,  allowing them to speed process up due to some similar program....and they have proof of couples here...i was like, ok then.....told my lady we will go at it her way ...i will know lot more about it when i get there..in 3 days from now, cause i booked a flight to go there..and talk to them and go for it if i feel is true....so i will know a lot more about it in about 3 or 4 days and let you know....Golden

Hi Golden.

Yes your princess has written to me a few times but I think she is very busy with all this preparation. She seems to be a sweet girl. Anyway, I don't really now about getting married in Peru and then filing but what I read was that spouses who married American citizens falls into the Unlimited Family-Based that will mean that there is an available number for this applications while the spouse of a resident falls into the Limited Family-Based and they have to wait for an available number for many years.

So maybe what they said is true. I recommend going to the American Embassy in Lima before getting married and asking all these things.

Regards and good luck,

Georgina
