I know that recently everyone commented that there are problems with sending stuff through the postal service, but you can pick up a Global Priority Mail envelope at the post office that is a very good deal.

To Brazil it is $5, the envelope is big enough to fit photos, and a CD, and if you don't go over a pound, you don't need any customs declarations.  The max you can put in the envelope is 4lbs.

Also, if you stay below 1 pound, you can mail it from your mail box.

I'm planning to test this out and see if it arrives.  The convienience of getting 4 or 5 of these at a time then mailing it out over the next few months seems very good.

The problem with US priority mail is it goes in to the Colombian mail system, which is real slow.Regular letters take 3 weeks and I would think they get to Colombia in 4-5 days.
Ups says they will ship you package in 2 days,it takes 3 and costs around $40.I need to send some mail that needs to get there in a week or so.Anyone know any cheaper options than UPS?

I once sent a flat envelope to Medellin via this USPS Global Air Mail method. It cost about five bucks and took two weeks, NOT 2 or 3 days. Like others have said it's much more likely to be a problem beyond the reach of what the US Post Office can do. But, at least it got to its destination.

I tried the same thing a few weeks ago for a birthday present to Lima, it weighed less than 4 pounds and cost me $36.00. They promised it would get there in 2-3 days, so I thought it was worth the price....guess what ?,it took over a week to get there. Some of the other guys posted about other options of getting things there, check the archives.
