We are very happy and she is adjusting well. Could u guys help me with some advice concerning the following.

1) Getting a drivers license.

2) Work permit.

3) Green Card.

4) Steps towards citizenship.

5) Social Security Card.

6) Anything we should get done that would help us.

We are getting married the 8th of June and will honeymoon in Orlando, Fl...She likes Mickey Mouse, hehehehe.

Thanks for everything. She is wonderful. I love her so much. The long wait is over. Thanks to God.

Best Regards

Hi Red and Rosie,

That is GREAT news!!! I am very happy for both of you! Have a wonderful wedding and a great honeymoon in Orlando. Bring extra film for the camera and extra batteries for the video camera. Be prepared to chase theme park characters around all day for photos and autographs. Shocked)))

Forget teaching her how to drive. Better to concentrate on teaching her how to fish!

Jeff,

From my experience, I have found that it only takes about 5 minutes or less to teach a Filipina to fish. I think it just comes naturally :-)

Start with the easiest gradient. It'll be lots more fun than teaching her how to drive!

Hi Red,

Congratulations on surviving the long one! And welcome to America Rosie!

If she wants to work, have her apply for a Social Security Card now. She can get a card and work during the 90-day period of her K-1 visa. She should bring her passport, I-94, and another recent picture ID if she has one. If she waits until later, she will need to apply for an EAD work authorization and AOS Adjustment Of Status before she can get a Social Security Card. The EAD may take 2-3 months to get.

After you marry, get a certified copy of your marriage certificate. File for AOS, EAD, and Advance Parole with Form I-485, etc. It will take maybe 6 months to a year (or more) to get her green card.

Forget about citizenship for a while. She can apply after she has her permanent residence for 3 years if she wants.

Driver’s license: If you can afford it, hire a professional driving instructor to teach her behind the wheel. She can start studying for the written exam. Contact your motor vehicle dept. for details.

Congratulations.  It's taken time, but it's sweet now that she's here.

As far as the drivers licence goes, just get the manuel and get the learners permit.

As for citizenship, I don't know.  Tess has not shown the least interest in becoming an American.  She's happy being a Filino.

Best wishes.
