... in response to I Second That................., posted by Globetrotter on Jun 14, 2005

Some of you are missing the point. I don't have A story to tell (my story). I have THE story to tell. There is a SCRIPT. If the FSU women don't know it already, they learn it after a little time here from the other FSU women.

1. You get married.
2. You treat her well, but you want a divorce because it isn't working.
3. Her visa status is threatened by divorce. The US Immigration people will let her stay, according to US law, ONLY if she is abused.
4. She plays the abuse card. She packs up and moves out.
5. She moves in immediately to a shelter for abused women to get the judge's sympathy.
6. She slaps a restraining order on you (no proof of anything needed) with the wildest allegations and files for divorce, if you haven't already.
7. There is a trial. If you lose, you may be imprisoned. You also may never work in your profession again (depends on the job).
8. You lose the trial as there is no need for any evidence other than her word to convict you, or you win if you videotaped or audiorecorded your every conversation with her to prove your innocence (so don't expect to prevail!).
9. You are imprisoned because of her perjury, or you are free to pay her thousands of dollars in spousal support.

It's a lose, lose, lose situation. That's the script.

When you think it's a matter of choosing well, you are wrong. I married someone fairly close to my age (the oldest woman I ever dated in my life), same occupation, I visited her in her country four times. All her friends and coworkers vouched for her upstandingness. Met her family.

You just don't know what these FSU women are capable of when the chips are down and they are faced with going back to the US. I'll say it again: You just don't have any clue what monsters these FSU women are capable of when the chips are down and they are faced with going back to the US.

This is NOT my story. It's THE story, confirmed by Travis, others who have posted here and lost interest and left, and also any US immigration official will tell you this is the script they ALL follow when they need to.

Scaught,

Thank you for this valuable posting.  I don't doubt that this happens.  The only remaining piece (or pieces) of information that would put this in context is statistical information and of that it seems none exist.
