As usual, you are passing out useful information to help others.

Thanks.

How's married life treating you?

Olya just completed her first college level course (in America). It was in English Reading and Comprehension and is foundational for the remainder of her college study. She was 'bumming' a bit the other day because she thinks she may have "only" gotten a 'B' (I am betting on an 'A').

Between her college activities and her work, it is getting almost impossible to plan for any decent vacations --smile--.

Take care,

- Dan

... in response to Airfare to Moscow / Kiev and others $350..., posted by Quasimoto on Dec 13, 2002

Just a few weeks ago I ran all types of searches and spoke with travel agencies here in the states that specialize in Russian Travel.ALL were telling me discount rates to Moscow did NOT apply between 6 December and 26 December. Those rates were outta the roof....

I went on-line to Aerosvit(main office in Kiev) the company that does all the booking for all of Aeroflots' reservations and many of the other internal domestic airline companies(there are not very many) INSIDE Russia...

I got round-trip tickets Boston to New York to Moscow $551.00 and Moscow to Rostov,Russia $136.00 ---TOTAL $687.00 each R/Trip
I could not match that anywhere on the pc or with any travel agency...

THE KICKER....Aerosvit ONLY takes payment in one of their offoces in Ukraine,Moscow and other smaller offices throughout Russia and Ukraine. They don't accept credit cards or checks for payment. You have to actually go in the office and pay them in person.SO THIS IS WHAT I DID...I had them make my itinerary and hold it for me for 72 hours...They sent it to me by email...I called Aeroflot in New York and faxed them a copy of the itinerary from Aerosvit and CALLED THEIR BLUFF...(I had called Aeroflot earlier and got a price for the same itinerary that was about $600.00 higher )...I told Aeroflot that I did have someone inside Moscow that I could wire money to to purchase the tickets for me and then send them to me but that if THEY (Aeroflot) wanted the business for the itinerary I faxed to them from Aerosvit and if they (Aeroflot) could do it for the same price the deal was theirs...They (Aeroflot) JUMPED at it...THEY didn't want to give Aerosvit commissions for their OWN airflights...I faxed them copy of my crdit car and their authorization form along with the itinerary and copy of my passports and the tickets arrived to me by mail 3 days later...

WOW, this is quite a procedure.  My hat's off to you.  Hope we can all duplicate it.

And, Steve, sorry that you took offense to my post.  Didn't mean to be questioning you.  Just a stream of conscience type of posting.  :-))

I agree with the others; the key is whether there are actually any tickets available.  Another point is the note about additional fees and taxes may apply.  Those can be substantial in cases where quotes are given that do not include the fees and taxes.

This may be similar to the situation on Expedia and Travelocity.  They have some options you can chose there that purport to show you cheap fares for various points in the future.  I have played with that option which shows these cheap fares and a calendar for you to punch in the dates you would like.  I have NEVER been able to punch in a set of dates for which the message says "We have seats."  I always get the message "Sorry, try another set of dates."

There are however, other options on Expedia and Travelocity that only show tickets available, and these prices are substantially more that these 'basement fares.'  Not that they aren't good deals; just nothing like the ones that show up on the other option.

This is not a situation where I have just simply read a link and posted. I have compared (with taxes) and bought tickets through them every flight to Europe for the last 3 years, except one time, when in fact I could not get a ticket. I have nothing to prove to any of you. I you don't want to explore the possibilities, then that will cost me no sleep.

Steve,
Lighten up bud.  I only askd if you ever actually booked a flight with them before because when I tried, the "deal" fare disappeared.  It was a Moscow fare through Aeroflot and when pressed, they said they were not responsible for what the airline really offered.  No one is challanging you or your info.  Just looking for verification.

It's true, you can find fares like this all over the internet but when you try to book one, you are usually SOL (shiit-out-o-luck), at least in my experience over 4 years...

Would love to know if someone can actually GET that kind of fare..

Steve,
I was a member of Bestfares for a while.  The seem to offer great fares that you can never book.  Have you triedto book a $350 flight?

Ken,

I have not tried to book this flight. However, it just got posted on their site. There are numbers of links, and over the 3 years I have used them, I have gotten the cheapest fares through them all but one time. That includes all the agencies posted here by various people. I usually fly for about $200 less. My biggest problem is connecting flights out of Salt Lake City. It sucks for airfares and connections. However, it is easy to fly to the west coast.
