... in response to you are wrong about one thing, posted by KenC on Nov 18, 2002

Thanks Again.  When I first saw her photo, I thought she was attractive, not beautiful.  No smile, almost sad looking, baggy clothes, no full view photo, and I almost didn't write, although she was the first.  Her children were more important to her than she was, and she wrote in her profile that she was a happy person.  Emotional letters about other people and other events told me she was not at all self centered as many AW are.  That was the key.  Her letters "drew" me to her, and in person, her personality first, then her beauty "attracted" me to her.  Only many photos and months later did I know how good looking she was, and was a wonderful surprise.  If first you love a person, that is a necessary first step.  (I also love my dogs.)  To be "in love" later is when you do something about the situation, and this takes time to develop, if ever.  When this happens, I will act "before God gets the news."....and I'm working on getting there.

Regards

"...If you think international travel is "exotic" try it for 25 years. For me, going to London is like going to Indianapolis, just takes more time getting there. "

Amen to that!  London is just a smoke break on the way to the Mid East.  I'm so used to the furnishings at the American Lounge at Heathrow, I may buy the same furniture for my house :-)

Great story!  And good luck to you!

Globetrotter,
Great story.  Thanks again for sharing.  This is a good example of how things CAN work when you use your experience, intuition and good judgement.

Talk about a miscommunication!  If you two end up together, that will be a story that your family will always remember and they will make sure YOU never forget! ;-)

Globester,
I hope this turns into a great story!  It is a very good begining.  According to many here you have already broken the "rules" according to them.  Sending money, buying a ticket, not meeting in her home town, buying lavish gifts and of course just going to meet ONE woman are ALL very serious offenses to this game (according to others).  Some how, I think you knew exactly what you were doing.  I hope the rest of your story proves this point.  Thanks for sharing.

As far as breaking the rules, as far as I am concerned, there are no rules.  I will see her in Saratov soon, the tickets she could only take on the very days they were for which you already know if you have dealt with Aeroflop.  As far as $200, would you want your sweetie to travel with no $, plus I was embarassed to ask if she had anything to bring.  If she needed a quick expensive taxi ride, she had cash.  If there were visa costs in Cyprus, she was taken care of, as she would arrive before me, or a day room to wait for 8 hours, she could do that.  Also know, that if you trust who you are writing to, and can sence the sincerity of their letters and thoughts, you are much better off to have done it than not.

Lastly, the best definition of "character" I have ever heard is, "That's who you are when no one is looking" and she certainly seemed to have lots of that!

Globe,
I certainly wasn't busting your chops in any way.  He!!, I broke most of the rules and have been happily married for 3 1/2 years.  Still the best advice is to choose wisely and be damn lucky!

Actually the story does have a happy ending.  No problem in sending a girl a ticket, as she can't turn it into an MCO (miscellaneous charge order) which CAN be turned into cash.  It can only be used for that particular trip, and will only be given to the party whose name it is in, after identity verification...if you use a travel agent from here, or your card gets credited.

The jewelry was a birthday present, and as she had 8 hours to kill in Moscow, I wanted her to spend it comfortably.  As it turned out, she took a bus everywhere, and spent all the money buying me presents.

For the rest of the story, you'll have to wait.
