I hope that this one corrects her ad.  Below is the text:

Self description: I'M A ROMANTIC AND HOMELY YOUNG WOMAN. I LIKE TO READ CLASSIC NOVELS.
Ideal partner: HOPE TO MEET HERE A REAL FAMILY MAN.

No correction needed, please check your facts before commenting. The word homely actually means, suited to the home, domestic, unpretentious nature, uncomplicated. JUST the woman I personally would prefer. She is probably using a dictionary to write, and is actually writing her true thoughts. The colloquial use of the word is actually a more recent usage.

Without getting into a debate over linguistics, I was just pointing out that it was not a word that she would probably want to use in a profile.  I took the time to write her and let her know that it may not be taken the way she meant it by folks just scanning the ads.

WTF is up with this board?  Why is everyone so grumpy?

Sorry, you're right! Maybe it's just the diminished sunlight here in the northeast.

Jski,

Once, my ex & I were in Nassau for a convention.  Rather than stay at the resort we went into town to get a 'change of pace' nice dinner.  Bad choice.  Every dock at the pier had a cruise ship in port and the sidewalks were crowded like rush hour on 5th Ave. in NYC.  It was a big hastle just getting into a nice restaurant that had under a 1 1/2 wait.  We finally found a place & it turned out to be a very nice meal although the service was a bit stretched due to full capacity.  We both wanted a break from this hub-bub so an after dinner stroll down through the mass of bodies on the main drag was not in order.  We caught a hack (horse w/ straw hat, posh coach, etc.) and told the driver to get us out of the 'zoo' for some romantic peace & quite.  He took us to the residential hills above the city.  Dead quiet up there - we were the only noise.  That damn horse just kept clopping along at the same rhythmic pace whether we were going up the steep streets or down - he never varied - and the driver just sat there like he was asleep at the wheel the whole time.  Finally, I asked him, "what makes the horse just go on like that - all on his own?"  He said very slowly, after thinking, (very, very quietly in the still evening atmosphere of the town below),

"I THINK IT'S JUST THE NATURE OF THE BEAST."

Just think about it, man.  Everyone here is in their own personal 'rutting season' state of mind.  We're all here frustrated, horny, pissed off, squashed down, pie-eyed, aggresively adventurous, well overdue for a legitimate give/take relationship, a little bit angry from dealing w/ AW and/or getting screwed over financially.  Did I leave anyone out?

So, you ask, "WTF is up with this board? Why is everyone so grumpy?  I answer,

"I THINK IT'S JUST THE NATURE OF THE BEAST."

And that's my rant.

Bob,
You are exactly right in your assessment of the clash of personalities here.  This is a site that attracts some very individuaistic and strong willed men.  Each and every one of us feel like a trail blazer.  The trouble usually starts when an individual here fails to understand that there are  many trails to the promised land other than the one he traveled.  There is no ONE good way to do this.  The only proof of success is to have a successful marriage.  The guy that declares his "success" before his woman steps a foot in this country is a fool.  Time will only tell how successful one will be.  I have known my wife for over 4 years and we have been married for 3 1/2.  Is that long enough to be crowned "successful"?  I don't know, but time will tell and I am happy as a clam for now.

OK, good point Bob :-)

Just amazing how "personal" everything gets here....

Guess my only frustration is work.  Just came off a "good" divorce, the ex and I are still good friends, I kept both houses and while we have joint custody and split the time evenly, I have residential.  The bills were divided evenly based on income %, she pays a very low support, but we split all the expenses including daycare.  Heck, she's even been encouraging about this process.

I found a wonderful 23yr old with a daughter the same age as mine.  They even have a great time talking to each other on the phone.  She speaks English, has internet access at home, home phone, cell phone and a friend who works as a translator who will do our documents for her.  Everything is going great, so I'll just keep smiling :-)

Jski,

"Everything is going great, so I'll just keep smiling :-)"

Well, there's nothing better than that. Even if you die tomorrow, you'll go out with a big 'S___ Eatin' Grin!'

So far, your life is going easier than mine did - I envy you for that.

But don't forget to watch out for "the nature of the beast"!  (i.e., watch your back.)

Rick, I think Jski was just making light of the language glitch that we all run into, not putting RW down nor wanting to get into a linguistic debate.  You seem agitated and kind of snippy and I don't see why (but maybe I'm reading this wrong)...  Bob

You're right. I just like to give credit to these ladies trying so hard to communicate.
