It has now been a bit over 8 months since we filed for AOS and we still havent had an interview. I have read comments from others that filed about the same time we did and they have had interviews... anyway, we were gratified to at long last hear from INS... unfortunately they said we needed to come in and do fingerprints... which was confusing because Im sure we did fingerprints back in January... in fact I know that at least my wife had fingerprints done for her EAD card at the time... well we went to the appointment today... turns out they are doing extensive fingerprints now.. the girl doing the fingerprints did not have a good answer to why we need to have fingerprints done again after already having them done... she said something about well after a year they need to be done again... well it is another 4 months before it will be a year... anyway... sitting tight and hopefully we will get the interview soon now that they have the 2nd set of prints... anyone with similar experiences out there??? just curious,
Keith

They will fingerprint you until the cows come home.  Sometimes they say the fingerprints were not clear, particularly on the signature card.  Or they just don't have them, i.e, they lost them.  On a related subject, bring photos to the AOS interview.  They lost ours and, fortunately, we had an extra set to give the agent to complete the green card.  Just part of the drill.

My wife and son had fingerprints done at AOS for thier EAD card. A few months after submitting AOS, we received an appointment letter to have fingerprints done again ( a full set)...but this time in our home town, instead of the long drive to San Francisco.

My wife and son were fingerprinted yet a third time at her AOS interview...index finger only....which we see on her green card.

It was my understanding that the full set of fingerprints were needed for a final FBI background check before the interview.

Sent the I-485 paperwork in on June 10, 2002 to Portland, OR INS.  Received letter on August 10, 2002 from the Portland INS indicating they had received the I-485 application.  In the letter it indicated that normal processing would take 11 months and please do not contact them until that time had elapsed.  On August 29, 2002 we received a letter from the Portland INS saying our interview was scheduled for October 16, 2002.  We'll keep everyone posted on the outcome.  No fingerprints have been given or requested yet.
