Asked this before, but lost the Q&A on the message board. Where is the A#? Is it on the visa or the I-94? Or neither? THX!

we didn't recieve an A# until we filed our I-485. I think that some of the regional offices havedifferent policies on when they give it out.
They also told us that if we didn't have one to write 'pending' on any filings until we recieved it.

I answered before but here it is again.

In our case, the A# (alien registration number) was handwritten on the I-94, which is a card that is stapled into your fiancee's passport.  In some cases the officer at the POE may also write the A# on the visa which is blue background form with photo that is pasted in your fiancee's passport by the Moscow embassy.

The A# may also be found on the notice of approval that you receive from the INS Service Center -- NE, TX, CA, or VT -- which tells you (the petitioner) that your fiancee (beneficiary) has been approved for visa and may then go for an interview with the embassy.  The A# should be typed in above her name on this form.  The A# starts with a "A" and has 8 digits following it.

Good luck.
