You may recall the "insect"/"in sex" fiasco. This was the RW I had been corresponding with the majority of the time.
I should have seen the signs. She started to distance herself from me. She asked me to buy her a cellphone, which I did. She did show me around the city. Another red flag was that she would not speak with half of her family, for a variety of different reasons.
I had 7 days, and 3 rw, although she (rw #1) was the major reason I came over. The other 2 I had corresponded with semi-regularly, through a translator. I had not set a definite time to meet the other 2, as I was hopeful that this would work out with rw1. It didn't. I made the mistake of telling her early on I would get her another gift before I left because she was such a good host. Mistake.
I arranged time to meet rw2 on Friday. I felt guilty abbout the fact that I did not contact her until 3 or 4 days after I arrived. I set aside 3 or 4 hours to meet her, with a translator.
When I met her, she was genuinely excited to see me. She kept saying she could not believe she was actually meeting me. She is 23, brunette, attractive ...much like rw#1. Thats where the similarities end.
She started asking me detailed questions about our correspondence. It was obvious that she remembered every e-mail I sent her. I could hardly remember any of the specifics of her e-mails, as I had been so enamored with rw #1. I improvised as best I could.
I bought her two small gifts -- a book and calendar of Chicago. When I handed it to her, you could see the genuine appreciation in her eyes. We went over each page of the book, and she kept telling me "thank you, thank you" I apologized for only getting to spend one evening with her. She replied "I'm just so happy we got to meet one another and spend time together."
We got back at the hotel. How do you react with an interpreter present ? I was starting to feel somewhat akward when she said "May I kiss you on the cheek ?" I honestly felt like a 12 year-old at that time. She kissed me and I kissed her back. I turned to leave, and she had on one of the saddest faces I've seen. I went back to the hotel room, called rw #1 who said she didn't want to do anything that evening. She later went out with her friends.
