Am I just overlooking it or has the search feature been discontinued??    Anyway,  here is my question... is Secam the only format that is used in Ukraine?? or do their recorders also play NTSC and PAL???   Also, does anyone know of a good and not so expensive recorder that you can purchase in the states that records and plays in these formats (along with the vhs format)Huh  thanks,

Keith

You can always buy a 8mm video recorder and that usally plugs into any tv and there is no change over for anything. I have  a 8mm here and I send the tape to my fiancee and then she watches it on her 8mm camera through the tv. they can record off that cassete in thiere format. Then use the tape for you and send it back, if the customs over there will allow it.

thanks guys for the input... snow- good idea about the 8mm if my wife's parents had a video camera but they are doing good just to keep food on the table and other expenses right now... perhaps one day when I visit I can leave an inexpensive one with them...

thanks mark... I try not to be myopic ... for instance our health care distribution and system (aside from our great surgeons and drug innovations) could learn quite a bit from other lands... but these dang video formats!! LOL the world needs to decide on the best format and go with it... geez Pal , ntcs m pal  secam etc.   !!!  to much bordock!!!!  LOL

once again thanks guys,  - I still am not 100percent sure of what format ukraine uses... secam or pal or maybe even ntcs.. oh well

The Samsung SV5000 or SV7000 can both convert and play.  I have the SV7000, which is basically the same as the SV5000, but can also play the format that is used in France.  I had borrowed the SV5000 before I got my VCR and recorded NTSC tapes to pal by using VCR's  You can find these on Ebay at a decent price.  The great think about the Samsung is that you don't need a multi-system television to play tapes in other formats. I also have a JVC multi-system, but it requires the multi-system television to view tapes that are other than NTSC.  The great thing is that these VCR's and the television prices have come down in price tremendously over the last couple of years.  Hope this helps.  Jim

thanks jim... it looks like the 5000 is the way to go... not sure what advantage it would be to pay more for the 7000.  anyway my mother in law is going to do some serious damage to my backside if I dont send her a copy of our wedding video from Jan. soon!! LOL... thanks again for your help,
Keith

You are very welcome.  Also, don't forget that PAL is used primarily in the FSU now, although many posts and VCR instruction manuals on these machines will tell you that SECAM is used here.  I know this because I sent a SECAM copy to my fiancee and it ended up in black and white, vice color.

The search page says it's temporarily down...

As for PAL vs NTSC... I think they are all PAL.

You can pay to have them converted, but I haev never seen a "home priced" player that did both.

Maybe you'd have a better chance finding that in Europe... Americans have a tendency to be kind of myopic about things outside our shores...
