Author Topic: IL-11 crash at SVO?  (Read 3432 times)

I told my wife about the airshow crash and while she was checking that out (in the online Lviv newspaper) she said that there had been a passenger plane crash at SVO yesterday. Has anyone seen more details?

Great, she's leaving for Kyiv Wednesday (via SVO). That coupled with the fact that her dad has family in Lviv (and the government isn't releasing the names of those hurt/killed) has her pretty shook up.

In addition to the SVO and Ukraine crashes, Tatyana tells me there were airplane crashes in Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, and the Altai Mountains.  I do not have any details on these.

What kind of price on airline tickets did you get from (I'm assuming San Fran.) to Ukraine.

I thought that with your previous experience on aeroflot that you would never use them again.  Just curious if the price of the ticket is worth it.

I am planning on going for a couple of weeks with my wife to St. Petes and Odessa.

I think I might have some trouble finding tickets with Aeroflot flying out of KY.

Just curious.

Yeah I said "never again" but I still had the return trip part of the tickets I bought for V and Dasha to use (for credit on their R/T) and wanted to fly back with them when they come back. I'll fly there in five weeks and have a small vacation with them then return together.

I paid $1041 for my R/T (SFO-SVO-KBP) but after you add on the cost and hassle of getting a double entry transit visa it is about the same as flying NW/KLM. You might try them (via Detroit) as I had a great flight with them and you get into Kyiv at 1330 hr instead of 2230 hr (IF you are lucky) with Aeroflop.

NW / KLM does have round trips to Amsterdam with "convenient" connections to Kiev from cities other than Detroit.  I flew Miami - Amsterdam - Kiev last May.  The layover was a little tight on the way back: my flight out of Kiev was late and I had just enough time to switch gates and get on the plane.  (The nice thing, though, is that NW / KLM can reroute you through Detroit if you miss your connection.  The 7:00 am flight out of Kiev is a KLM code share on Ukraine International.)

As an aside, there is an Orlando - Amsterdam round trip daily on NW / KLM.  I remember someone once recommending Orlando as a good port of entry for your finance.

Take your pick. Unfortunately they're all in Russian or Ukrainian. I doubt their accuracy also as they report that only 60 people have died so far from the airshow crash.

Don't you know she is one happy camper.  Going home for a visit.  Time certainly has flown by for you two.
---------

It's also on TV - CNN

Just the flt crew died except for two stews, no passengers.

Aircraft had been worked on in Moscow and was flying back to St. Pete.

Guess, somebody forgot to hook up that extra cable. oops.
